Hello. I'm a proud, new owner of a damaged Evo 410c (Compaq) laptop. The previous owner owner tried to power it with an AC/AC transformer. I have recently opened the casing and removed the minature, glass fuse which was ejected from it's holder. My questions: Where can I get a replacement fuse and what will it cost? I can't find the fuse holder -where is it located?
Normally the fuse rating is stamped on the end caps of the fuse. It would be rated in amps. Just get one that has the same rating and length.
The fuse will be held in place by spring clips that clip on the end caps of the fuse. Look for these clips, they will fit nearly onto the metal caps of the fuse.

1>NEEDS TO TRY RESEATING OF THE RAM(SWAP THE RAM WHILE PLACING THEM BACK IN) AND THEN TRY TURNING ON THE COMPUTER
2> IF THIS DOES NOT WORK THEN NEEDS TO REPLACE THE MOTHERBOARD
let me read all 3 posts, why not just have one and comment to one?
symptoms for all, do nor read posts from folks telling you to find fuse clips seen in 1980s, PC, forget that. this is all SMD parts.
wiki that....
previous owner used a AC/power pack and blew up this LT..
its 19vdc not 24vac, or you WILL BLOW IT UP.
fixing that if true is non trivial to say the least.
it will not power on with battery removed, and with correct 19vdc pack attached,
or it does turn on sometimes but locks up in XP screens.
This is a 13 year old LT. so fixing one this old is dicey.
(reason is XP is dead OS and parts hard to find)
why look for fuses. if a fuse works on 1 boot why would it fail 2nd boot? answer its not a fuse its dream of a fuse. (hope)
Does BIOS screens work,
Does using a DT screen on the rear 15p, VGA port work can the external screen be made to work.
Does booting to any bootable CD work, HP windows install or live LINUX cd, or window live PE CD work. if yes the LT is ok
just has bad OS or BAD HDD.
Power dead totally and 19vdc on the MOBO input pins
is a dead mobo, no BIOS,on both screens, 19vdc in is a dead mobo. The fuse if present are SMD fuses F1,F1, if mobo marked, L1, L2, those are inductors not fuse... nice try though.
Do the following steps -
- Remove the laptop battery
- Remove the CMOS battery
- Leave it for idle for around 15 minutes
- Put the CMOS battery in
- Boot the laptop with AC power
- Then put the laptop battery in.
- The BIOS pwd would have been reset now
- For troubleshotting the battery - Go into BIOS and run the Battery Caliberation tool
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
AK
you may have damage the main mother board. replacing the fuse,or regulators will not help.better to replaced the main mother board.and stay use the same hd and cd.but you may have to reload if you are not replacing with the same exact board. good lock
Unfortunately on most Compaq/HP mobile devices the AC pin is soldered directly onto the motherboard. If the pin is severely bent of broken off then a service is required, usually to replace the motherboard. Having the broken off like then can actually create a minor crack in the PCB. Sorry for the bad news.
