I have replaced the control board with a new 6871QCH060Q board and the vertical red stripe is no longer a problem. I now have horizontal streaks and the screen flickers mirror images that seem to cause momentary screen blackouts. I have reseated the ribbon cables several times but the problem refuses to go away. The fact that the circuits become confused as to right and left seems to me should be telling as to where the problem lies. Can anybody point me to a specific cause?

Stripes horizontal

The manual on page 122 says:
Vertical streaks appear when you are shooting a very bright subject. Cause / Solution : The smear phenomenon is occurring. This phenomenon is not a malfunction.
So when you are photographing in bad light, and some where in the frame is a bright light, from that light, white vertical strips can occur.
But you mention Horizontal lines. If this happens in normal light, outside, or in every light condition, something else must be wrong.
I wonder if bringing a 10 year old camera to a repair store or Sony service centre is worth doing.

I am getting stripes across my picture when I use my digital camera. How can I fix this problem? I have an Olympus Camedia c-5050 digital zoom

IF the stripes are on the pic and not in the monitor, your CCD is failing. It is made of many horizontal and vertical traces, the Vertical traces usually go and are a thin red line. If the lines are fatter than 1 pixel, then your CCD is exhibiting moisture ingress that is common with this camera and it is not repairable due to parts no longer made unless you want to replace the CCD chip on the daughterboard yourself.

Steve, your issue is not the bulb...

Sounds like you have a problem with either a ribbon cable from your main board to red LCD panel, or a main board failure.

CLP-500 vertical streaks & a horizontal line with blotches appearing randomly

I've refilled the toner cartridges a few times now and never had a problem with vertical streaks until recently. I refilled both the cyan and magenta and when I ran the test page I had dark vertical streaks on both sides. I fiddled around cleaning things, running cleaning paper through, changing reset resistors but to no avail so eventually decided to buy a replacement refurbished cyan cartridge since the streaks looked mainly blue and bingo... well almost now I just have very light magenta streaks. The issue is obvious when I compared the old and new cartridge, the replacement toner is a much duller cyan and is of the wrong consistency since once it's been in the printer everything gets covered in it which is why I think it causes the banding to occur. I'm just trying to work out now whether to try refilling the magenta again (v. messy) or just go for another refurbished cartridge (£34).

No horizontal red convergence control

Probably the red convergence output IC has failed. The chip is basically a stereo amplifier that serves as a horizontal amplifier and a vertical amplifier. I suspect the vertical part has failed and is not uncommon. Should be generic STK392-150's or maybe STK392-110/120 I believe. By the way when the line moves up and down that means the vertical is working when it moves side to side the horizontal is working.
