Hi. My washer just won't spin. It washes, the agitator moves and all of that good stuff, but it just won't do the spinning. Help...is this something I can fix on my own?
These washers come in two flavors: belt-drive and direct-drive which one is yours?
Belt driven:
Direct driven(wash driven)
In the Whirlpool/Kenmore washers, a common problem is that the lid
plunger stops making contact with the lid switch. Use a pen to manually
press the lid switch actuator (with the lid up)
IF this doesn't work then may be the direct drive coupler is worn out and you wll hav to replace it..
It is nothing but the mortor coupler...If it is worn out it looks like this

I can see that you do not know much about the machine parts..so it may be wise to get it done proffessionally..It should not cost you much anyways...
Good luck!

Hello rylee1966 - From what you are describing, it sounds like the washer agitates, but it will not enter a high speed spin. If that is correct, more than likely there is a door switch failure. I will personally recommend contacting a professional to move forward accurately and to assist with the repair(s).

Can you tell me how I can find out because I'm not sure.
After looking at mine it appears to be the direct driven one.
The pen trick didn't work. It runs and you can hear it but no spinning. Is this coupler something I can replace or do I have to have it done professionally? Also, how do I find where this coupler is in order to see if it is worn out?
