Cartridges Won't slide over

My Canon Pixma MP780 has all new cartridges installed and I pressed them all down until I heard the clicking sound as usual.  The machine had showed two cartridges as needing refilled but after a couple of tries it would not print anything.  I then did the normal printer maintanance of cleaning the nozzel and head through the computer.  It is now flashing wrong cartridge and will NOT slide the cartridges back over so I can remove them.  I have tried turning the machine off and on and unplugging it.  Any suggestions???

I had the same problem. Canon said I was SOL - take it to a service shop or buy a new one.

There's a large chrome rod that the head rides on - the one that is greased. On the far left hand side at the bearing point, you can see a plastic cam. If you rotate that cam (and the rod) clockwise with your finger (looking from the right hand side of the printer towards the cam), it will raise the head assembly enough to release the heads.

Once I was able to release the heads, I ordered a new head assembly from Canon - about $45 with tax and 2 day shipping. I installed the new head, replaced the two cartridges that were very low, and was back in service.

WARNING: The above method of releasing the head was empirically determined by examining the printer. This may not be (probably isn't) a sanctioned method. Try at your own risk. If you break your printer, it's not my fault. But, it worked for me and saved me paying an arm and a leg for service, or buying a new printer or paying for those expensive new cartridges.

I changed my Canon PIXMA MP780 3e cartridge, and

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink or toner cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled (the absolute worst possible choice) or third party cartridges (2nd. Worst possible choice) that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks or toner causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead or photo conductors.
If you are using factory new ink or toner cartridges, then please call the manufacturer’s Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Can't load ink cartridges for PIXMA MP780 printer

Are you using OEM cartridges or refills?
If you still have the old cartridges, put them in and see if the PC gives you status for the empty cartridges. If the system correctly statuses the old cartridges, check that the new cartridges the correct ones for your printer.

Error: ''Wrong Cartridge'' when no new cartridge has been installed

It is probably one of the cartridges. Usually, when the message "wrong cartridge" appears, the cartridge is faulty.
