Blow out the sensors with some compressed air, Using a can of compressed air, look for the sensors that detect the paper and give them a blast or two, then try it, it may take a couple of tries.
This may also be a good time to lubricate the cutting heads, if it is a good machine with metal heads a light oil applied to paper then run through the shredder will pass the oil onto the heads.
A shredder oil or light oil like 3 in 1, these usually have a narrow nozzle to limit the oil flow, draw lines, do a picture or spell your name on the paper with oil and shred it. You have just serviced your shredder.
If it is a less expensive shredder with plastic heads, shredding a couple if sheets of waxed paper will pass the wax onto the cutting heads reducing friction.

Hope this helps.

Caster holder broken and won't auto-stop after shred

I see you posted two questions on the same issue, and the other one was disjointed with no indication what the caster wheels were on.

Check the switch, they normally have On, Off and Auto.

Remove the head and clean all paper debris from underneath. You have a small piece of paper over the sensor and it is sensing that there is still paper for be shredded. Some have a small lever and if so, yours is stuck. Spray with WD40, and all the blades as well.

The caster wheels could all be removed and have it sitting on its base. The wheels are for use if you keep it in an office cupboard. You just replace the whole caster wheel or the whole set for $14..

Ativa® MDM6000 6-Sheet Micro-Cut Shredder. How to remove top to clear a paper jam please.

Question edited for full 'make model (what is is)'.

Wait for it to cool down and use Reverse to eject the jammed paper. Or you can pull the paper out with pliers.

My Ativa shredder has a red light on. It is the indicator that is a picture of the door with a circle on it. I can reverse but not shred. Any suggestions?

edited to correct spelling of 'Ativa', 'shredder' and 'shred' for clarity.

The graphic is telling you that the waste bin is not fully located. Remove it, empty it and push it fully back in.

Ativa shredder X1800 - shredder does not respond. green light present. Reverse works fine. I killed it with too much shredded paper.

Unplug it. Lift the shredder unit off the catch-bucket. Remove any paper caught in the blades. You may need needle-nose pliers to pull jammed paper out from between the cutters.
