RJ -45 is a type of connector used on cat5, cat5e....etc cables to connect networked devices...the RJ stands for registered jack but there is really not much you really need to know about it....a RJ 45 JACK is a little bigger than a telephone jack, you'll notice the female type of input on your computer or laptop and the male end will be on the end of the cable that goes into this jack....hope this helps

1.screw the cable line into the (F-connector)port in the back of the modem just like a tv does.2.then use the RJ-45 lan cable supplied with the modem, plug it into the RJ-45 port in the back of the modem.3.then plug the other end of the cable into the computers RJ-45 port.4.then power on the modem by pluging it in,and letting it boot and detect the internet signal and all lights are on and in working order.then start surfing. The only time you will need the install cd is if you need to use the usb hook up on the modem.

What jack does the Slingbox Ethernet cable hook into on a ATT 2wire modem? I have a choice of DSL or one like the phones are hooked into. It's not working now so I'm backing up each step, no matter...

Before you change anything - is this a new device you are hooking up or had this thing worked in the past? First thing to do is reboot everything starting with the modem and ending with the computer at the end of the line. Wait at least 30 seconds between each device. Review all the connections - everything plugged in where it should be? (this is of course your question - see more below).

Eithernet connections (plugs) are RJ-45. The RJ-45 looks like a RJ-11 (telephone jack) only bigger. Typically, the RJ-45 will not fit into the RJ-11 AND SHOULD NOT. Why? Your Cat 5 eithernet runs on very low voltage and signal (packet switching). If you succedssfully get the RJ-45 CAT 5 cable into the RJ-11 phone jack, when the phone rings, you will be sending 60 volts into your network. Can you spell "Do I smell smoke?" A RJ-11 will have up to 6 wires (one pair or two pair or three pair) in the jack and up to 6 'buds' on the RJ-11 plug. A RJ-45 will have 8 wires (in the jack) and 8 'buds' on the plug of your cat 5.

Your device may say DSL on the Cat 5 connection - count the wires inside or the jack.

There are other Cat 5 connection types, punch down and terminal screw types, I dont think you are talking about either.

On your AT&T modem, you should find a RJ-11 which will attach to a near by telephone jack and a RJ-45 for your Cat 5 cable. Your modem may also serve as a router and as such would have additional RJ-45 ports. I suspect you are using a separate router for your home network. As such, one of the ports on the router should be marked Internet or Upload or maybe it is a special color or is set aside from the other ports. That special port will be connected to your modem and your other computers will use the other, lesser ports.

Of course, you could call your service provider for clarification also.

Thank you for your question @ FixYa.com - I am sorry you are having this trouble and I hope I have helped you in some way. I hope you are able to get your system back up in short order.

ehm the 8035 doesn't have a comp port but an RJ 45 port, the unit comes with a rollover cable and an Avocent Adaptor which should be used to access the unit.

The parts are the following items:

540-604-501 Adapter [RJ-45 to DB-9 DCE Female]; equivalent to Equinox 210095
540-605-501

My APC BR1500LCDI has RJ-45 data port, how can I communicate with it. I lost the cable data provided by vendor.

The APC UPS communicates with the computer using a data cable that has a RJ45 connector at the APC and a USB connector at the computer. This data cable and communication software CD is available from APC.
Go to this APC WEB site for a manual for your model UPS.

How di I terminate the QVS Cat6 RJ 45 plugs?

terminating a RJ 45 plug means to put a RJ 45 plug on the end of a suitable cable. This is done by making up a si\uitable cable and skinning the tips of the cable and inserting them in the right order to the plug and then using a special RJ 45 crimper mashing a plastic plug down on the wires. You can purchase such an arrangement from an electronics supplier.

I have a cable modem that doesn't want to accept the RJ-45 cable (I think that's what it is called.) I've tried several different quality cables with no luck. Strange problem. Any tips?

Some RJ 45 jack cable has fault so try with another RJ 45 jack cable .. Purchase new rj 45 jack cable from nearest computer shop. There must be 2 port on modem 1 for ADSL phone line cable and otthr for LAN ethernet port means RJ 45 jack port. Try with another rj 45 jack cable it should be connect.Make sure that LAN port of modem is not faulty means make sure pins on that port are not break. Let me know if you need further assistance. RJ-45 port fails to securely seat the ethernet jack

These ports are soldered onto the motherboard. They can be changed out by a tech that has the right equipment. I have been able to successfully pull these off at one time using a heat gun set to high for 15 seconds. Then the solder points need to be cleaned thoroughly and the new jack placed into the brass sleeves of the motherboard and each leg soldered into position.

Does it make a difference if i use a wire splitter? does it make a difference of the order the phone pins are connected in the wire splitter?

What are you doing? Are we talking about telephones (RJ-11) or are we talking about routers and ethernet cable (RJ-45)?????

RJ-11 will fit into a RJ-45 but a RJ-45 will not fit into a RJ-11. Translation, your telephone wire will plug into your router/computer port but your Ethernet wire will not fit into your telephone jack.

If you are working on a telephone, as long as you have dial tone on the other end, it doesn't make a big difference. You should have a polarity checker to insure proper polarity but even if it is wrong, most phones will work most of the time. Get a polarity checker at Radio Shack for about $10.00

If you are working on a router ... well, it is no wonder your network will not work. You cannot split one RJ-45 port into two "Ports" using a telephone RJ-11 splitter. Never, Never, Never, plug your router cable into a telephone jack (RJ-11). Yea, Yea, Yea, I know, I just said a RJ-45 will not fit into a RJ-11 but if you have a telephone cord pluged into the router, guess what, 60 Volts will smoke it. When the phone rings, it rings with 60+ volts and will smoke any computer device it can smoke looking for ground.

If you need more computer ports, get a bigger router or bigger switch or bigger hub or get a wireless router to accomodate your wireless devices.

I hope I have answered your question.

Can i connect my xbox to my laptop /w pc usb

Xbox Network Connection using Hub

This is the most common network configuration and is also the easiest to setup.
Step #1: Plug your network cable(RJ-45 cable) that comes from your cable/DSL modem into the uplink port of your hub. (Make sure that your uplink is switched to "on").
Step #2: Take an RJ-45 cable and run it from one of the ports of the hub, directly to the Network Interface Card (NIC) installed in your computer.
Step #3: Take another RJ-45 cable and run it from a different port of your hub directly to your xbox.
**NOTE** A switch may be used in place of a hub with the same basic setup.**

That's it! No other network changes should be needed for this configuration. Your Xbox is now on the same network as your PC.

Xbox Network Connection using Router

This is another common network configuration.
Step #1: Plug your network cable(RJ-45 cable) that comes from your modem into the WAN port of your router.
Step #2: Take an RJ-45 cable and run it from one of the ports of the router, directly to the Network Interface Card (NIC) installed in your computer.
Step #3: Take another RJ-45 cable and run it from a different port of your router directly to your xbox.

**NOTE** In steps #2 and #3, you should not use a port that is directly beside the "uplink" port on your router, if your uplink port is being used to connect to another routing device.** If your router has a built in firewall, you will need to forward ports 8602 both incoming and outgoing to the internal ip address of your pc. Consult your device manaul for port forwarding.

That's it! Your Xbox is now on the same network as your PC

Xbox Network Connection using Crossover Cable

This is the last network configuration. For this setup you need at least one NIC card.
Step #1: Plug your USB cable that comes from your modem into your PC's USB port. This should already be done, if you have a usb modem for your current internet connection.
Step #2: Take an RJ-45 cable and run it from an installed NIC card on your PC, directly to the Xbox.

**NOTE** A crossover cable is only needed if you are connecting the Xbox directly to the second NIC card. If you have a device such as a switch, hub or router in between you should use a standard RJ-45 cable. This type of network setup also requires "Winroute©", a program downloadable from the world wide web. Consult the manual for specific instructions on how to set this up. Also if you have a USB ethernet adapter, you may use any of the setups described herein. USB ethernet adapter basically converts a USB cable into an RJ-45 cable.

That's it! Your Xbox is now on the same network as your PC.
