HP Compaq Presario R4000 Notebook Questions & Answers
Persario r4000 won't read software cds
tada ! a compaq from the past. OMG runs XP right? 12 year old LT.this topic is very complex.first off no OS stated, opr. sys? XPanswering for XP. the dead OS.No Optical drive label stated, vast models used and sold. for 12 years.First off Ill say your XP drivers are bad, or the XP is infected as all are.no photos presented of your Compaq install disksso i can see then and read them with my eyes,to know exactly what is there. wow.if you cant read them in XPthat means XP is messed up or the drive is bad or the disk is bad. so boot the disk using the BIOS.ever use BIOS , it tells you how do that at every boot on the screen , like"hit F2 to enter bios setup)"or some hot key, varies by year, mine is ESC.if the disk boots and runs, Compaq, HP or Microsoftthen the DISK is ok and the PC is ok and the DVD drive is ok, leaving what, bad XP.is XP fully updated to SP3?XP has always had difficulty with optical drives.not only that XP shut down support so if you try to install MS drivers for this DVD drive how can it? XP is DEAD now.ever go in to device manager and do search for missing devices, and be online doing that, but wait , its now DEAD at MS this feature.why not just get PC that has w7 on itand end all this misery$20 fix , buy a used PC that is not 12 old.you want a PC nearer than year,2009 with a w7 COA sticker on the bottom. and win !see cheap pc here far better.... http://www.pcdied.com/cheaper.html

Memory upgrade aba d8x43ua
You can upgrade, your RAM, with the same voltage, and brand, but also brands like Kingston, or Samsung, Corsair, are good ones!
always, look on places like best buy, or radio shack for those.
I prefer new RAM instead of used.

My computer is asking for a pass word
If you have lost your password, try remembering it using the hint.
If you can't remember it, there is a password to unlock user password, but still now nobody knows what it is, try searching in the Internet, maybe you will find it.
If there is another user in your PC, you can go inside it, and recover your password via a software called
Network Password Recovery Wizard 5.4Happy Recovering ;)

Slow start up and beeps a couple of times
The beep pattern tells you what is wrong. Search Google for the exact pattern...ie 2 short beeps, 2 long beeps, etc. Could be bad RAM chip or bad motherboard or video card, etc. The beep pattern will tell you what needs to be fixed.

W fi will no longer connect
The wireless router has a rest button, just reset it, you will need to reset security, if you use it.To rest ip, you use ipconfig/all ipconfig /releaseipconfig /renewexitBut if you just reset router, repower this and the cable modem, you should see the wireless, then if you have to, open network and sharing, change adapter setting, disable and enable the wireless hardware.

Compaq Presario R4000 boot error
Hello Joresnore,
When booting to the XP install disk you should arrive at a "Repair Install" option that will not format the HD (I am reasonably sure it has to be SP2 though). It will just overwrite Windows system files, .dll's , etc... I think this is only available when using an XP SP2 disk so if your installation disk doesn't contain SP2, I would look for one that does and give it a try. I have had multiple successes using the repair install method without loss of data.
Good luck.

Pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable
The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Next - to check if the hard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot see it as an USB mass storage device and you cannot open the various folders and files on this drive, then this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

I have a compaq presario r4000 will no longer connect to wireless after installing a netgear router
Some later model wireless routers have the Password(ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router andthis information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router. These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop. If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements. The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID and Encryptionkey. The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits. Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born inJanuary 1988.The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. To connect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop,configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wirelesssettings ie SSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptopscan communicate with your wireless router.

HP Compaq Presario R4000 (PN495AV) PC Notebook How
Yes, go to Start>Control panel>Power Options. There also should be a screen brightness key on your key board, that looks like a sun shining, with arrows pointing up & down. To use that key, hit the FN key, right next to the Ctrl key. Push & hold the FN key, while pushing the up arrow. That should increase the brightness of your display. Good luck.
