Check your settings - could be if very black night, and you set it to 100 iso film speed, and maybe you are on say 1/1000 of sec at maybe f16, then that's ok. You would maybe need an explosion in an oil refinery to capture much.
However, you perhaps could try this:
1 change the battery for fresh one, and see if it helps - sometimes, the shutter won't really shut if battery power is very low
2. change the mode setting to auto, and see if the flash pops up and takes a pix - then if the pix is good, the camera is still working
3. Reset the camera to the factory defaults, by:
- Firstly press the 'menu' button, then the up
button above the 'OK' as many times as needed, until you see the top
folders are highlighted.
- Press
the right button near the 'OK' until you see the last folder
highlighted. You will know this is highlighted when you see the first
menu option that says 'Language'. The 3rd one down from that says
'Clear Settings'.
- Press the down button under the 'OK' until 'Clear Settings' is highlighted, then press the 'OK' button.
- Scroll up to your choice and press 'OK' to reset your Canon 400D back to default factory settings.
If that fails, back to Canon! - good luck
I have a three year old Canon PowrShot S2 IS which is not working. When I look at the LCD screen or through the view finder, the screen is black except for the setup information displayed on the edges of the screen. If I try to take a picture, it also is black. It's like there is a lens cap on the lens. How do I contact Canon to rectify the problem if it is the CCD sensor? Thanks
I have a similar problem. (IXUS 850 IS)
When I switch on, the lcd display is black - more exactly, the white icons show up around the edge of the screen (which is black) for a couple of seconds, but then they disappear and the whole screen goes black. This is the case for almost modes of shooting; in digital macro mode the LCD display acts normally, though.
It will take pictures in auto mode, and I can review them. Anyone got any idea what's happening?
