Hi,
this might be a virus/just a simple issue.

Right click the file you want to open with Notepad, click on Choose Default Program..., select Notpead, check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

SOURCE: compaq presario 2500 notepad

Well,you already have a DVD burner in your machine, and A DVD ROM refers to memory.. you just need to download the upgrades available at Compaq's website. find out which Cd/DVD burner you have by downloading a marvelous freeware program called Belafrc Advisor, which will list all hardware and sofware on your
computer, compete with versions and access codes. then go to
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=320163&lang=en
which lists all upgrades available for your model. DVD burners stopworking correctly when your non-microsoft burner program becomes corrupt, so be sure to upgrade that. If you have any problems, ask support.

SOURCE: my documents download into notepad as gibberish

Try un-installing the adobe acrobat reader program and reinstalling it. If you have XP it is in ADD/REMOVE programs in the control panel. If you have Vista it is in Programs and features in the control panel. Then go to adobe's website and download the newest FREE Acrobat Reader. Make sure you un-check to get the FREE toolbar, as they are usually junk and cause more problems then they help.

SOURCE: HP notepad - continueous beeping sound with equal sign characters

If you are getting a lot of = character along with the beeping, this indicates you have a stuck = key and the beeping sound is the keyboard buffer is swamped with the = character. If you can't unstick this key, then you need to replace the keyboard.

SOURCE: windows notepad is in computer code, cannot read

notepad is not meant for viewing formatted html or other help files other than TXT files.

You may have accidentally changed an association.
to change it back for html lets say then right click on the file then use "open with" then "select program from list"

when the list opens scroll down and click "internet explorer" and tick the "always use this application" box

B.A. Regedit

Any of you that do websites and like to open .html and similar files in notepad to edit scripts, this is the coolest windows registry edit ever you can download the zip file with the .reg in it (run it and it automatically adds itself to your registry) or do it manually.

CODE
http://www.geocities.com/ichbindeingott5/winxp-notepad.zip

Manually: regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\Shell add the key "notepad" it's default value should be "open with notepad" now, under "notepad", add the key "command" it's default value should be (with the quotes) "c:\windows\system32\Notepad.exe" "%1"

ok, exit regedit and go right click on ANY file...
you new option: Open with notepad.

I know this one works on XP and 2000, you can PROBABLY enter it manually on windows 9x, but I have not tested that.

I know maybe not everyone cares... but this was fun for me because I love tweaking my computer and it makes some web design stuff easier for me :D

Useful Notepad Trick !

This is real cool for people who use notepad to write down any info on a day to day basis.

Open a blank Notepad file

* Write .LOG as the first line of the file, press enter.

* Save the file and close it.

* Double-click the file to open it and notice that Notepad appends the current date and time to the end of the file and places the cursor on the line after.

* Type your notes and then save and close the file.

Each time you open the file, Notepad repeats the process, appending the time and date to the end of the file and placing the cursor below it.

My new pc turns on but i cannot get the icons to show up

Hi lwoodward...
Try this solution, you may want to print to paper for a hard copy
Please rate me

Please follow these steps:

reboot your computer in the Safe mode with command prompt.

Once Windows loaded, command prompt (black window) opens. Type notepad and press Enter.

A notepad window opens. Type the following text into notepad:

[Version]
Signature="$Chicago$"
Provider=Myantispyware.com

[DefaultInstall]
AddReg=regsec

[regsec]
HKCU, Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System,DisableRegistryTools,0x00000020,0
HKLM, Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon,Shell,0x00000020,"Explorer.exe"

Save this as fix.inf to your Desktop (remember to select Save as file type: All files in Notepad). Close Notepad.

In the command prompt type Explorer.exe and Press Enter. Windows Explorer opens. Locate the fix.inf, click right button and select Install. Close Windows Explorer.

In the command prompt type shutdown -r and press Enter. Your computer will be rebooted and your icons should reappear.
