The vent fan of my microwave won't turn off even after unplugging it for several hours

My microwave is 1 1/2 yrs old. The vent fan went on while I was cooking the other day. It wouldn't turn off so I unplugged it. After an hour or so I plugged it in again and after a few seconds it went on again and I have tried several times even unplugging it overnight and the same thing happens.

SOURCE: No key's work. Display and inside light is working

The Keypad is either faulty, or disconnected. Open the case, and remove the screws, holding the outer shell on. Inside, there should be a small board that covers the Keypad. Check to see if there is a ribbon cable, or some other type of connection going from the board to another part of the microwave. If all of the wires are connected, then you will probably need to replace the keypad.

SOURCE: I have an LG over the stove microwave that beeps

hi..
test the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode or the magnetron. If all this are fine, test the control board.

The diodeand capacitors can be tested. The capacitor must be allowed dischargebefore testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, even if power is off.Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their two contacts.
Before replacing the magnetron test also the control board.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason...

SOURCE: Microwave shuts off as soon

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. This most commonly is a bad door switch, other possible problems are a faulty relay or solder joint on the power module, but a bad door switch is most common. Also make sure you hear the fan is still operating in your microwave. Next is to make sure the air intake grill on your microwave is not plugged up with air borne dust and dirt.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

What do I do when the vent won't turn off?

unplug it for 12 hours or more and try again. Failing that the button or circuit for it may be broken, also make sure nothing is blocking the vent or nothing in the vent assembly is damaged. if you are opening the microwave make sure you know what you are doing of get a pro to do it for you. get an estimate and compare that to the price of a new one. Especially if the microwave is old or cheap.

Mmv5165bas vent fan will not stop running

Check to see if there's a relay providing power to the fan. If there is, the contacts might be sticking in the closed position. Assuming that this is an over-the-range unit, disconnecting the vent fan completely might not be a good idea as heat/steam from foods cooking on the range would more likely damage the microwave.

Vent blower won't stop

I had the same problem with the fan not wanting to shut off after the repair. Once I set the clock though I was able to push the button to shut the fan off. So try setting your clock first and see if that helps.

How do I stop the vent fan on my Amana OTR microwave (AMV1162AAW)

see the block diagram, unppluged the machine, and disconnect only 1 wires or 2 wires and wrapping with electric tape individual.
However I will NOT recommend to do this, because the fan cool the magnetron, that emite radiation for heating the foods.
God bless you

Oven won't shut off

One of the door switches is defective, caused by a build up of food particles or normal ware, to correct this a professional will need to identify the problem and replace it.

Microwave won't work, I was cooking on the stove and the fan came on and then everything went out on the microwave suddenly

There is a thermostat which detects when the temperature from the cooktop is too high, and it makes the hood vent exhaust fan come on to cool it to protect the controller.

That's I always recommend that you use the vent fan whenever you're cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls and door panels.

Assuming the wall outlet is good, the first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

If it's still dead, another thermostat may be blown,or the fuse.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts here.

I'd recommend that your bookmark this link to your favorites.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Usually the fuse and magnetron thermostat will be accessible for testing behind the controller.

If those are good, then it may be a bad oven cavity thermostat, and checking that will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

Behind the controls in many microwaves is a technical sheet, which helps in locating and testing components.

GE Microwave oven vent fan not working

You are correct the fan motor is either stuck or needs replaced.

There is no way to do this without removing the entire microwave. In case your not familiar with how microwaves work, there is a capacitor that is very large inside and can hold a charge even after it is unplugged for up to 24 hours, please take action to prevent getting shocked.

Kenmore 721 microwave fan turns on by itself

I have the exact same problem with my Kenmore Microwave model 721 that we bought in October of 2005. The Fan will just randomly turn itself on even when we are not cooking. It has been doing this for the last few months and is starting to become more frequent. There is no way to turn it off except to unplug it for several hours.
Was there a recall for this defect ?
