Power supply to Sirius Radio

Hi. I bought a used 2004 used car 1.5 yrs. ago that has a dash mountiung bracket and two wires coming out behind bracket. I know I have a satellite antenna above my windshield. My question is, will a new Sirius radio hook up to this. I tried my friends Sirius Sportster Replay and it worked fine. Do I have to worry about power differences?

Yes, some sirius radios work on 5 volts, and some work on 12 volts. Your sportster replay is a 5 volt unit. If you trace that wire back, you will find a cigarette lighter plug with a transformer built into it, with either wires soldered to the terminals, or a female cig plug wired up behind the dash. Whatever sirius unit you plan on hooking up, I strongly reccommend using the transformer that it came with......however if you're willing to take a chance, it's most likely 5 volts.

I need a 12 volt switched power supply for my sirius radio, where cani find a wire i can hook into?

Check the large wires coming down the steering column from the ignition switch. Use a test light and find one that illuminates the test light with the key in the on position.

I took my radio out of my 2004 Saturn l300 and my dash light's went out there are a few extra wires behind my radio what do I do

check the fuse--you probably brushed the 'hot' wire against a metal bracket and shorted the circuit and blew that fuse.

I have audiovox Sirius radio from 2004 and still works fine. I am having a problem finding a frequency setting while driving from phila. Pa. To Newark de. Can you help me with a frequency setting that...

I use a wired fm modulator that the fm antenna passes through. When the sirius radio is on it blocks the regular fm signal preventing local signals from interferring. Do a search for wired fm modulator and you should find one. Mine actually fit inside the dash on my pickup.

How do i reset the radio for my XM Sirius? How do i remove KDC-BT742U from dash to reset using tools provided? book is just not clear enough on this.

There is no need to pull the radio from the dash to reset. There is a reset button above the aux in put behind the usb door. You will need a paper clip or a tip of a ball point pen. Once reset you will need to reprogram all of your setting (FM stations, clock) as this will wipe out the memory. To remove the radio from the dash will depend on what kind of car its in. Some (Toyota, Niss.) use the factory brackets to mount in the dash. IF this is the case the dash will need to be disassembled. For the kit installs you will need to remove the trim ring around the outside of the face of the radio. Then the keys will be inserted on each side of the radio releasing the clips then the radio can be slid out.

Just bought a car and it had hardwired sirius radio already installed. I called and activated it with Sirius radio and tried to get assistance from them on how to get it to work. They gave me instruction...

The "hard wired" version that you speak of apparently only refers to the power supply.Do you have a seperate display for the Sirius unit? Now, you failed to mention the type of radio (factory or aftermarket); so, if you have to use an "empty radio station" then you have an FM modulator. This modulator could wired or wireless. The wired version interrupts the vehicle antenna wire and the station on said modulator is usually preset to either 88.1, 88.3,88.7, or 89.1. There is no need to power this modulator up, it comes on when then Sirius comes on. One way to check for power is to turn on the Sirius unit and tune your radio to an occupied Fm station. Wait a few seconds and listen to the reception. Turn off the Sirius unit, the reception should improve for the occupied station. If it is a wireless FM modulator it also has preset stations that you can change but, extending the wieless antenna will greatly improve your reception of the Sirius stations.

Same problems here also, had sp-1 for 4 yrs no probs at all! I even have a brand new antenna, needed to be replaced any way, thought that would fix problem (ACQUIRING SIGNAL) No luck ,why does everything...

Go to XM, I did. But first, call Sirius and ask them to 'refresh' your receiver. Leave unit on channel 1 for 30 minutes and see if problem go away. Make sure to turn off and on with pushbutton on unit - not remote, and do not just diesconnect power..

Radio is not coming on at all

Check the fuses. Radio fuse in fusebox (red 10A) and also inline fuses behind radio on red and yellow wire.
Otherwise seek service.

Sportster 4 not working...

I had the same issue. This is what Sirius calls a "Frozen Unit". There is no bypass, unfortunately, and it must be returned.

I had mine for 3 days and it froze on the Sirius Logo screen when booting up. If you bought the unit from Sirius, you must contact their E-Commerce department. If bought from a retailer, take it back to the store.

Sorry, mate.

Sirius not working after taking to dealership for unrelated problem

How did the dealership resolve the battery draw issue. Did they rewire the Sirius for you. If so they could have wired the unit wrong. If you have a newer vehicle most of the wires in the dash are a very light gauge and most fuctions are controlled by, what's called a Body Control Module. Some of these wires are not a very good place to draw power from not onlt could it damage your Sirius Radio it could damage the electronics in your car as well. I suggest getting it looked at by a professional. Then go from there.
