As others have reported, the

Doesn't look good. When you open the unit up (easy to do) the backlight LEDs for the LCD display aren't functioing. Unless you could get the schematics it would be hard to trace out the circuitry. Even then you's have to get the correct replacement part. Since so many people have the issue it is probably the same part, or same broken conmnection.

I twisetd and poked and prodded around the board and the flex cable without luck implying it is a defective part.

As a side observation the quality of the soldering on one side of the board is marginal. There are incomplete fills for the SMD (Surface Mounted Devices) on their backside. Since the same issue keeps getting repeated it probably isn't the soldering but if multiple people reported various issues then the soldering might be the cause.
