Invalid systme disk. Replace the disk and press any key

My laptop had windows 98 on it. I tried installing windows XP. Everything was going fine.... at some point I had to delete windows 98 to finish installing the XP. After 98 was removed from the laptop I had an error message and the laptop shut down. Now I have nothing. When I turn on the computer I can hear it running and this message appears: Invalid system disk Replace the disk, and then press any key--- There is not a disk in it and when I have tried to install windows 98 or put any disk in it has the same message.

You only got a portion of the system installed. You'll need to reformat the disk, boot from Windows 98 and reinstall the 98 software. I've seen alot of old computers that have 98 or ME, but when you try to upgrade the system croocks. This is because the XP drivers don't fit the equipment. Just like today when you try to upgrade older XP machine to VISTA and it won't happen we had the same problem back in the late 90's.

Good Luck

I have an older computer and it takes windows 98, what i need to know is how to down load the 98 boot disk onto a cd that is in the lap top it has no floopy disk, my computer has been up graded with...

www.bootdisk.com try that, but if you had xp on it then get into the bios or press f.1.2 at post & switch it to "boot from cd"(make sure your xp disk is in). It should re-boot & ask to press any key to boot from cd. Continue from there. Trying to put '98 on without a floppy drive can be tricky to say the least. You'll need to find a way to load the windows dos based cd driver, from a cd just to get to the next step of the install. Avoid using 98 unless you really, really need it.

Can not install window xp

Your laptop probably has a SATA hard drive, windows XP only provides with PC's/laptops with a PATA hard drive.

You have to make up your mind what your really want to do.

1) Do you want a dual boot machine, working off XP and Win7?

Here's one web site:-

http://webtrickz.com/how-to-install-windows-xp-over-windows-7-in-a-dual-boot/

2) Do you want to replace Win7 with XP.

Here's a web site which covers that :-

System disc error Compaq Pesario 1275

This is either an issue with the CMOS batter which may need to be changed, I have seen this error on thinkpads and one way of resolving it is to install an older BIOS, you can download a BIOS from your machine and install it using there instructions

Hope this helps

STARTUP ISSUE ON TOSHIBA 4015CDT

Your BIOS is probably not set to boot from a CD-ROM. Luckily I have the same laptop so if you press and hold the "c" key when it boots up and keep holding it until it beeps at you it will then boot from a cd. You could also press esc and go into the BIOS if you're adventurous.
