I am looking to mount this monitor, unfortunately it has no mounting holes, so I am modifying it myself to be able to mount it. My only question is about how monitors with mounting holes are set up. Is it safe to anchor it simply to the plastic back? Or are mounting holes usually set into the metal body inside the plastic backing?

4:29:29 If locked in the down position, 1. Push the monitor down, 2. Press the Lock down / release button on the bottom rear of stand to unlock the monitor. 3. Lift the monitor up and extend the stand to the desired height.

Llay the monitor face down on the floor (I put it in the styrofoam from the package) and then put it up against a solid surface. Then push the part into the socket before attaching the round base.
I tried pushing down onto the monitor while holding it upright but that didn't work. When I called Samsung tech support the solution above is what they told me to try and it worked.

Ahh the same thing has happened to my monitor! Mine unfortunately is 1 month over warranty. Apparently this is a common problem with this model!
Testimonial: "Excellent advise and many thanks. But it seems that this model does suffer some problems with this fault and LG knows it."

Just fixed mine :)
Biggest mistake was to try to open the monitor itself :( But I didn't brake anything :D
You just have to gently open the transformer unit (power brick) and replace two identical 1000uF 16V capacitors.
Here's how:
Remove the power cord first, to discharge the capacitors to avoid any nasty shocks when inside. Remove two rubber feet on the bottom side of the power brick. Just use your nail and lift them. Put them safely for later assembling. Unscrew two screws you just found under the removed feet. Now you have to unlock the other side held together by plastic locks. Try to apply pushing force and toque with screwdriver just where the seam is meeting the power cord socket's edge. Look for two identical capacitors and check if the tops are bulged of broken. I assume they are but you can try this method anyway. When the unit is disassembled you'll have to unsolder at least one of the wires that hold shielding plate on the bottom of the circuit board. Then unsolder the two capacitors (1000uF 16V). Replace them with the same type (1000uF) and the closest voltage possible. I have replaced mine with 1000uF 24V ones and so far I'm typing :D
That's it. If you have done this and looked for other damaged capacitors and replaced them also... Well then good luck disassembling the monitor unit and checking on inverter and lamps ;)
Cheers!
