Control panel on my whirlpool dishwaher not functioning properly

I have a whirlpool dishwasher, model # GU980SCGB3. The electronic control panel is not working properly. The only setting I can use is for China. Sometimes the normal cycle will work, but that is becoming less frequent. The other problems I am having are:
-Sometimes the washing cycle is over and out of the blue the cycle restarts.
-Doesn't always drain
-The delay option comes on when you press the cancel/drain button

The console (control panel) is defective. The buttons may be getting stuck and/or are corroded.

Clean light blinks on whirlpool dishwasher won't run

If you aren't sure whether Control Lock is on, press a cycle button on the keypad. If Control Lock is on, the light will blink three times.
Turning off Control Lock:
  1. Press and hold the Lock Button for four seconds. The lock light will disappear.
  2. Once off, you should be able to start your wash cycle.
Note: If Sleep Mode is on, turn that off first, then turn off Control Lock.

Like many other electronics, you may need to reset the dishwasher control panel by turning it off, waiting, then turning it back on.
  1. Press the OFF button.
  2. Disconnect the dishwasher from its power source by unplugging it or by turning the circuit breaker off at the electric panel.
  3. Once disconnected, wait one minute, and turn the power back on.

Dishwaher does not drain cmpletely ?

Hello friend, thanks for your post!

I see you are having difficulty with your Frigidaire dishwasher not draining. Check the filter at the bottom of the dishwasher because if that gets clogged then it will not allow your dishwasher to drain properly. Additionally, check to assure that the sump pump is hooked up correctly to allow proper siphoning of your dishwasher. If that is correct it could be a potential problem with your control panel or drain pump and I would recommend consulting with a professional technician for proper diagnosis and repair. I hope this helps to some degree. -Matt

Heating Element

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the heating element might have burned out. The heating element heats the water up to operating temperature. After a set amount of time if the temperature isn't reached a light on the control panel might start flashing. The heating element can be checked for continuity with an Ohm meter.

Check Fault Codes

If the display lights are flashing and there is an error code in the display window, check the wiring diagram and tech sheet in the dishwasher that will provide information on the fault.

Drain Pump

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the drain pump might not be working properly. For two-wire drain pump motors check them for continuity using an Ohm meter. If it's defective You'll need to replace it. Drain pumps are not repairable.

Touchpad

If the display lights are flickering for no reason, the touchpad might need to be replaced. Sometimes when the touchpad is defective the display lights are flashing randomly.

Whirlpool GU2500XTP dishwasher went dead in mid-cycle.

"Wondering if this model has had reliability issues with the circuit card." ...If by circuit card you mean the electronic control board, that part number is used in many other models as well. In my experience with these control boards, I believe they have a low failure rate.

Make these checks if you haven't done so yet...
Check for 120V (breaker). Look for loose/shorted wiring connection at the dishwasher's junction box. Check all wiring connections to the control panel, electronic control and thermal fuse. Test the continuity of the thermal fuse (part # 8193762). If that's ok, you have already replaced the control panel so the problem is likely with the electronic control board (part # 8564546).
Good luck.

Control Lock means that the entire dishwasher is locked, for child safety purposes.  It's normally cleared by holding the "No Heat Dry" button in for 4 seconds or more.  It is locked again by the same procedure -- holding the "No HEat Dry" button for 4 seconds (or more).
