A friend of mine has this polaroid lcd tv that just went off and wont power up again. It is only 8 or 9 months old and hasnt had much use, but Polaroid will not honor warranty because my friend received tv as a gift and doesnt have purchase receipt. Any Ideas as to what the problem could be. I would like to fix set for her since she cant afford to keep buying tv's that dont even last a year.
Thanks,
rick
I just took one of these apart right down to the LCD. The two bulbs in the LCD were cracked. When you turn it on it crackles a little then the light goes out. I tried to find bulbs online but no luck yet. Hope that helps.
Does the blue light come on? If so then its caps in the power supply that needs changing, 1000uf/16v replace all of them.
The only thing you can do is look inside the TV for blown fuses. But, after that. it's hard to tell what's really wrong with it. And taking it to someone to diagnose the problem will cost more than the 15" TV worth. At the moment, I can't find a Service Manual for that TV yet. But, if I had to guess, the power supply board went bad. Cost about $80.00 at shopjimmy.com. It's only a guess.
Sorry I can't help you more.

No lights come on, quick slight static sound in speakers when plugged in. I took out power supply board and the 2 fuses check to be alright. Dont see any bulging or leaking caps. I havent checked transistors or other components as of yet.
I checked the power supply voltages at the pins and get +5 and +12, but I dont think P/on pin is getting a signal or voltage to turn it on. I tried both set on/off switch and remote. Hard to trace board with out schematic. Any one know route the signal for p/on takes or any ideas where to look?...
Thanks
