Damaged battery or internal circuit problem it is hard to to say. Bring your laptop to a repair shop. They can check the battery and tell you what the problem is.

I'd recommend backing up your important files and re-installing windows.

There are soooo many possibilities as what it could be but that's not important. The outcome is what matters. So try that first and then let me know if you have any problems following.

SOURCE: my hp 6735s shuts down all of its own after 10-15minutes.

Hello,
This is likely to be as a result of your processor over-heating, maybe because of your environment, or because the fan is not cooling the processor properly again.
Therefore my suggestion would be for you to unscrew your laptop (If you can do it by yourself), and try to clean, or better still replace your processor fan.
Also clean the air-vent where air is supposed to enter the laptop
If you cant do it by yourself, you can easily get a technician to do it for you.
Also, remove all your RAM(Memory Sticks), and clean the tip of the connector with an eraser, and re-insert it one after the other.
That is, if you have two of them, after you insert the first one, put on your system and see if it works, then do the same thing with the other one.
If the two of them works, them insert the them all. but if it is just one that worked, just remove the other one that is not working and replace it.
I have actually had the same case before, and after doing what I've just told you, it stopped behaving like that.
Then always make sure that your laptop is in a well ventilated, cool environment and that the environment is free from dusts.
Kindly let me known how it goes after you've tried this.
Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!

My Gateway laptop, NE56R1u, shuts down automatically when unplugged even though fully charged?

Dear Leslie,

I had the very same problem with a HP Pavillion DV4 laptop and the problem was inside the battery - one of its cells became defective and the charge did not last more than a few seconds - it also showed a 100% charged icon but the battery was depleted in seconds.

Before buying a brand new battery you could check with a friend that has a similar laptop if he/she can lend you his/her battery for a few minutes and check whether the laptop keeps on or not with that other battery. In the case it remains on, it is the battery for sure, and you will need to buy a replacement one. Check the link below, for one option.

Hope you may find this information useful!

Help!!! Is my laptop battery broken?

99% charge is still pretty good so I'm not sure whether the HP health check is accurate. The only way to check is to unplug the mains voltage and see how long the laptop goes until it shuts down. This will help REFORM the battery to a degree and MAY restore your missing 1% of charge capacity. If the battery lasts more than 1.5 hours it's still pretty useable - why spend? Also if you do decide to buy a brand new battery and the old one lasts the best part of an hour you could keep it as a backup. Good luck.

I have some tips to keep your laptop battery live longer
1.don't undercharging and overcharging, laptops battery can reach 100 degress Fahrenheit and such heat can damage your battery. slowly but sure
2.ideally,you should try to keep your battery charged from 20 percent to 80 percent. i know it's inconvenient to unplug the charger before it reach 100 percent, but try to keep it charged near 80 percent
3.try to charge your battery constanly, and unplug it when you think its almost fully charged, overcharged can heat your battery and damage it
4.keep your laptop as cool as possible, don't try to charge the battery when the computer is turned on,even if the battery is going to 0 and you still need to use it,just shut down the laptop first and charge it,at least until the battery is charged 20%,unplug the charger and turn it on

Well, there are many other tips to keep your battery alive, but i only have those 4,thanks for using fixya
and good luck with the tree-planting project,i love environment very much

I have a Compaq 6720s Laptop, and I have plugged in not charging, and when unplugged despite saying 89% charged, turns off after one minute and thirty seconds

I suggest your battery has outlived it's usefulness. Perhaps you can get an even better one from an internet retail place. I've bought larger ones for various laptops and never had one fail prematurely.

if the power pack is good, 19vdc in to the mobo then its GOOD>
if not not.
if the battery is bad, it can cause a dead system. shorted batteries do that, so leave it out. and run on the power pack
why not do that?
lets say battery out it still fails..
so the power pack is bad or the jack on PC is bad.

Hp compaq 6720 laptop, wont charge battery, bought new battery have same problem. have tried several different chargers and they are all working, but not charging battery

If the notebook does not charge even after replacing it with new battery and checking with several chargers then it is laptop power jack issue.
You may need to replace it. However to confirm the issue is with power jack just remove the battery and try to power on the notebook only with AC adapter. If it does not then it is the power jack which is allowing the ac power to be charged.

If your notebook is in warranty then you can ship it to HP and if it is out of warranty then check the link below, you can purchase the power jack of the laptop from here.

My laptop just shutdown and after that wont start. The led is blinking and that is all. I guess the graphic card is down because is to hot to touch even. Anyone knows something about this ?

If it is very hot this is probably a Fan error and your laptop keeps overheating and shutting down. If it still wont shut down after you wait, than your computer could just be friend. Very rarely happens but it has happend to me on a HP Pavillion dv7000

Laptop boots then shuts automatically off

If you haven't tried it yet, pull the battery out and try booting from the adaptor only. If it boots normally, then your battery pack may be bad (shorted cell) or the regulator that has the job of charging and monitoring the battery pack while keeping your system running may not be healthy.
If you own any multimeter (at the cost of Chinese DMMs, everyone should own one), check the battery pack for charge. Under normal conditions, they should measure a couple of percent higher than their rating. You will have either Lithium Ion or Nickle metal hydride batteries in the pack so should measure some multiple of the nominal cell voltage of one of those types that are respectively 3.6 & 1.2 volts.

HP pavilion laptop shuts down abruptly

It sounds like something is overheating to me. Also, it could be a bad motherboard. Try putting your laptop on a hard surface. I carnt stress this enough. Also, you can try cleaning out the laptops cooling vents with some compressed air (you can get it at pcworld). At the end of the day and it still wont work, send it in for repair. Good luck
