Hi,I have Dell d630 with the latitude620 series bios revision a10 on it .service tag#995ypc-595B I'm locked out and was not told the admin pw when I purchased it

this old XP PC has zero value dead. (on ebay) and $20 working at most. it runs XP, only. so is a virus magnet. with XP. why buy dead PC, that are BIOS locked.? oops? why not buy a PC that is 7 years old or newer, and avoid these junk. this one is 12 years old, stuck in the 32bit world. that number is no good, ypc at del.com sorry the D630 has many variants, dash C and 4 others. the base is https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/latitude-d630/drivers last BIOS is Version A19, A19 Release date 16 Jul 2013 this PC not D620 has TPM and Intel Active management BIOS admin pw schemes that are not easy to hack, (by design) and SMART CARD locked. and more HDD lock outs. the book on your PC tells you to read page 199 for if lost your PW. did you do as the book directs? For customers in the United States, call 800-WWW-DELL (800-999-3355). or says to ask on the DELL.com forum not FIXYA we are not DELL we are not PWhackers.com ok? nor is it legal to do so. so in fact there are 4 levels of bios lock here. any on can block you the model is newer with TPM chip, and you will never hack that if enabled. that is why the book told you to call DELL because they can discover which of 4 ways it is locked. here is video of doing older dells. that do not have TPM lock but the older EEPROM locks. (EEPROM locks are a dell secret and not use here) the rumor is 2008 to 2012 dell went full hog TPM. like yours. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=dell+d630+bios+password+reset history: locks types all years NVRAM (chip easy to reset) EEPROM super hard. TPM impossible iatm (intel locked) smart card locked. only Gawd knows how yours is locked, mine has TPM+iATM on mine its off, if was on it supports the intel 3 guess questions or my finger print reader. or fails hard, so I keep mine off. call dell or google how to hack there is no other ways, but those 2.

The screen on my lap top is broken, I would like to hook it up to a monitor but can't get it to display on it ... any suggestions?

If the laptop its self is not damaged, try holding the Fn key and press the F8 key multiple times till you get it to display on the monitor. The following was copied from the Dell User Manual "<Fn><F8>" "Switches the video image to the next display option. The options include the integrated display, an external monitor, and both displays simultaneously." FYI: "<Fn><F7>" " Scales between wide-screen and standard aspect ratio video resolutions." page 50 from PDF Here's the link to the Dell User Manual: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_latitude_laptop/latitude-d630_User%27s%20Guide2_en-us.pdf If you get it working on the external monitor, I would update the video driver and the bios. You can get the files from support.dell.com. If you are going to update the bios make sure the battery is over 50% charged and the power supply is plugged in to the laptop. You can check the bios version on a windows computer by typing MSCONFIG32 on the "run" or "search programs and files"

How to replace keyboard

This is a fairly simple process. First unplug the ac adapter and remove the battery. The looking at the keyboard, right above it is a Bezel that hides the screws. Take a small flat tip screw driver and gently pry up on the right side, then lift the Bezel out. Once out, you will see three small Philips Head screws that was under the Bezel holding the keyboard. Using a screwdriver remove the three screws. Make sure that you have a screw driver hat fits them properly, because sometimes they are in very tight, and you can strip the screw slot easily. Once you remove them, gently lift up the keyboard, starting from the front where the screws were. Then grabbing the small wire handle, unplug it from the motherboard. Once removed, place the new keyboard in by plugging the cable into the motherboard. Make sure you press down slightly so that it is seated well in the socket. Them slide the lower end in, and then lay it down and screw it back in place. The insert the Bezel back in starting by sliding it is the left side and pushing down until it re-seats itself. Gently press down along the Bezel to make certain that it has completely seated. The install your battery and plug in your ac adapter, and your finished. There is a YouTube video showing the removal as he is replacing memory on a D620 (which is exactly the same procedure). Here is the link to the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaeKW4kVRA0 Good Luck.

All (4) of the USB ports on my Dell Latitude D630 seem to have stopped working, particularly when using readers to access Micro SD. Any ideas anyone? Or is it a case of "off to the menders"?

Hi If thay have all stopped this would point to a hardware fault but It may be worth unistalling the drivers for the USB and also checking the BIOS to make sure you have not accidently disabled them in there Cliff Cook MCP
