I usually do a quick test of a small few onzes of fuel down the plug hole and reinstal plag and see if i9 fire up and run for a lil bit. maybe 5 -10 seconds. now i know i have spark . most usually our wonderful fuel is the problem. its just nasty now. it can stick a needle to the seat. it can hold her open . one way ya flood out. the other ya starv out. give it a try.

My Honda em5000s will not start. I changed the oil and put in a new sparkplug. I tried using starting fluid. Cleaned fuel filter/bowl. I pull but it won't fire.

To have success using starter fluid as a diagnostic you will need to remove the air filter cover and element. Then with choke open make a short (1 second) burst of starter fluid directly into the carburetor throat. (There is no need to saturate the intake with starter fluid... it is bad practice.) Promptly pull starter cord no more than 3 times. If you have compression and proper spark, it will fire and run for 1-3 seconds and stop as it will have expended the available fuel (starter fluid).

If it doesn't fire, repeat procedure. If still doesn't fire, likely no spark or plug is fouled. Promptly remove spark plug and check that plug is dry. Then check it has proper gap and you have spark. A wet plug will imply it is flooded and a flooded engine will not fire even with starter fluid.

If it does fire, then the likely problem is no fuel or water in fuel. Drain fuel bowl and some fuel (1/2 pint) from tank (just open fuel shutoff valve with carb bowl drain open) into a clear glass jar, let set for a minute and check for visible water line. If water visible, drain tank and refill with fresh fuel (use a clean EMPTY fuel container go to filling station and get 2 gal. fresh). If no water, then likely carburetor is fouled and will need service.

Left my honda petrol cement mixer upside down and now it won't start. How to I get it to work again?

There is probably oil in the cylinder. Remove spark plug drain oil and fuel and get carb cleaner spray in to cylinder wait five mins and empty out. Refill crank case with oil and clean spark plug. Fill gas tank note it might smoke for about 10 to 15 mins as it burns off remaining oil.

Honda Pressure Washer won't start

Blue smoke is def oil burning so I would guess that is the ain cause of the non running. It is possible that oil has got into the carb and jet . Turn fuel off and unscrew the slightly off set 10mm bolt on the bottom of the carb bowl to drain the fuel. If oil came out with the fuel then you should undo the other 10mm bolt and remove the bowl. Spray some carb cleaner around the floet and jet and also up the post that the bowl was fixed to as the jet is up there. Also, remove spark plug and pull over a few time to get rid of anything in the cylinder. Refit all back together and try again (don't forget to turn fuel back on).If it tarts it may run smokey for a few minutes while any oil residue burns off.

190cc 675 sears push LM. Irene put it under water. Drained carb and crank. removed and cleaned filter. New gas. Won't start. Got a little pop with starter spray. No pop at all?

Did you drain fuel tank before refilling with fresh fuel? Drained carburator bowl good, drained crankcase and refilled with fresh oil good, removed air cleaner and dried out good. One question for you , did you remove spark plug and drain any water that may have gotten into your cylinder through an open valve? There could be water sloshing around in the cylinder, gas and water will not fire, and water on spark plug wont allow plug to spark. If you need any more help please get back to me , I believe this is the first under water problem I've encountered. GOOD LUCK.

My Toro model 20018 won't start. I've changed the plug, air filter and put in fresh gas. Doesn't seem to be getting any spark.

Check if there is spark. Take out the spark plug again and hold against cylinder head with screwdriver. Start motor as usual, see if there is spark on plug when starting. if there is no spark replace ignition module .The next thing is there fuel getting to engine. My guess is that you have a plugged carb. jet. Clean out and reassemble. Be careful not to lose the small parts. Good luck

Poulan 6.75 Lawn mower will not start

Remove spark plug, clean and dry. Replace plug. Remove air filter. Spray WD-40 into carb opening; one second blast. Turn over engine, (pull handle). Engine should start briefly and run for 3 seconds.  If not, you are not getting spark to spark plug. If engine starts, you have a dirty carb and you can buy a rebuild kit from manufacture.

Honda 5.5 HP starts & dies

had the same problem with my Honda engined mower. you can't see it easily, but there is a very fine screen in the outlet of the fuel tank that gets blocked and fuel will not pass thru it fast enough to refill carb. remove tank and pour fuel in another container . Use a flexible plastic tube in the outlet or make a small wire hook to penetrate the screen,or preferably, remove it. confirm that fuel flows freely thru it, remove any debris, and reassemble. Change spark plug, add fresh fuel, and test. best of luck!!!! Ray
