Is it clean? fan and vents? Unplug, remove battery, leave battery out, plug in, reboot. If that fails, Re Boot and try a System restore/recovery to a date before this issue. Running intense program with the lid closed will cause a sharp rise in temperature making the laptop hotter than it should be leading it into a shutdown. The second issue, windows should be shutdown properly rather than closing the lid, this makes the operational system unstable and will cause files to corrupt eventually.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to close the lid because you might need a laptop that is designed to work with a docking station to do that.

Anyway, you can hook an external monitor, usb keyboard, and usb mouse to the laptop and continue working as usual.

Many washing machines won't spin or drain if the lid isn't closed. It could be that the switch detecting the lid close position isn't working or the tang that presses the switch isn't depressing the switch enough. Check to see if the lid is closing all the way, if so, then locate lid close switch and pressing on the switch with a Q-tip. If other functions stop when the lid is opened and work when the lid is closed then you have another problem. The problem could be in the wash cycle switch, try spin and rinse all the different settings.

Probably not a lid switch related problem. In the more modern Toshiba's, the lid-close switch is generally located either above the keyboard area or underneath the front end of the palmrest (towards you), and the lid-close function is activated by a magnet located either above or below the screen. Best way to check if the lid-close function is working properly is to use Toshiba's power management to set the system to go to either stand-by or hibernation upon lid-close - and if the computer goes to stand-by or hibernation when you shut the lid, then that part is functioning properly.

A better, more detailed and precise description of the problem with the screen will probably help in addressing the real problem.

does it fill with water and then nothing?if so it sounds like the lid switch is broke,open and close the lid a few times,open it a few inches and close it,if you don't hear a clicking sound the lid switch is bad.and it will be like the washer is dead after it fills

This sounds like the backlight has gone or possibly the invertor. May be best taking to a reputable repair centre where they will probably charge you around £140 to resolve as they will probably change the screen.

One other thought is that sometimes the switch or sensor for the 'closed lid' may be sticking. Locate the little switch that shuts the notebook down when the lid is closed and just ensure it isnt stuck down.

You have to configure what laptop do when the lod is closed . go to Control Panel , Power Options , Advanced . In this tab you will see an option " When I close the lid " and a drop down menu just choose do nothing and press ok . It will not shut down your laptop when lid is closed .
