My Acer aspire turns on shows windows logo then goes to black screen, what can I do?

Depending on your version of windows, I would trying starting in safe mode to see if the computer does boot. If it does, then you want to restart again, go to advanced boot options and select "start windows with last known good configuration." Access advanced boot options following the steps at this link. Blank screen after boot splash screen

Hi.

After you see the press Del and F12 message repeatedly tap the F8 key, see if that gets to the advanced boot menu, if it does select "Repair my Computer" from the list, and then follow the prompts. Have your Win 7 disk ready just in case you need it.

Let me know how you get on and good luck!!

After booting up all I get is a black screen

Try this:

If you're booting up the device and it goes thru the Post test and then goes to a black screen this usually means your OS has crashed.
You will need your Operating system or Recovery Disk.
I hope you've backed up your data and files.

Try this:

I have a Samsung SuncMaster 940BW 19'' LCD Monitor. It's a geat Monitor in my humble opinion in everything, except that since i got it i have one problem with it, and it wasnt possible for me...

This is a common problem with monitors when changing resolution. What probably happened is you may have tried to change the resolution, or an application changed the resolution, to an incompatible resolution.

For example, if you have a tiny little screen it can't display that huge resolution that a 32 inch monitor has. So, your monitor is stuck in that wrong resolution.

To fix this problem, you need to boot into Safe Mode. Restart your computer, and as it is booting up tap F8 a bunch of times, and then select Boot into Safe Mode.

When it boots up, right click on the desktop, click Properties (Windows XP) or Screen Resolution (Windows 7). When the window pops up, click Settings (if on Windows XP, if on Windows 7 skip to next step). From this window, change the resolution back to the basic 800 x 600 screen resolution.

Now, reboot your computer normally. You should be able to see the desktop. Now, you can do the same thing that you did in safe mode and turn up your resolution. BUT, when you change it, if the screen goes BLANK again, DO NOT press anything. After 15 seconds it should go back, and you can try a lower resolution.

Hope this helps! Thanks for using FixYa.

After windows screen it goes blank, i know the lcd works because i can choose F2 or F12 and read and choose anything there however when i command it it just goes blank, no cursor, just blue / black ..blank

If the system will not complete boot, try the F8 boot menu and select safe mode and see if the system will boot to windows.
If the system boots to windows, you could have software issues or a startup item causing the system to hang at boot, try turning off the startup group items in MSCONFIG (Start, run, MSCONFIG) and see if the system will boot in normal mode.
If that is not help, hold the Fn Key while pressing the power buttong this should start PSA diagnostics on the system, see if any hardware fails

I am in charge of a computer account here at work and have about 15 ACER 1916B monitors that are all inop...The monitors power up and show the ACER startup then show the windows startup to only go...

This problem is caused by 2 things, the computer is set to a higher resolution that the monitors can handle, so when the graphics card drivers kick in as windows boots the screen goes blank, this is normally the problem for people trying to hook there computers to normal lcd televisions not monitors, as monitors generally are able to show higher resalutions.

In your case because you are using computer monitors, the problem will be caused by the refresh rate settings on the windows, most desktop lcd monitors have a fixed refresh rate of 60hz, my guess is your computers are set as 75hz therefore as windows boots the screen goes blank because it dosent support that high a refresh rate.

To resolve this problem, just before windows boots press F8 on the keyboard, this should bring up a black command prompt screen, at the top you will see the safemood option, tab up to it and press enter, this goes to windows but dosent load any drivers including the graphics driver. Once loaded right click the mouse in the middle of the screen, and bring the display properties window up, in this window click on the settings tab, click on advanced on the bottem right of the window, this will bring up another window, click on the monitor tab, on this window you will see the screen refresh rste setting, click the small arrow and set this to 60hz and click ok, in the other window reduce the resalution down abit using the slider, click apply and close the window, then reboot the mechine as normal, the problem should now be sorted, any problems post me back. thanks and hope this helped.
