Try a new cable or usb port on your computer. Remember to have the camera powered on. Also, try this with the computer off, then turn on with the camera on and plugged in.
once out of the camera & deleted form the card, the camera will not display any of the images because it does not have that function. even jpeg images being the same format cannot be viewed.
For Z740 camera the batteries should be AA Ni-MH batteries it will provide a maximum power on the camera. Now if your using the battery and its fully charged still wont turn On.

you need to go to the camra manufacture web site and see if they have a download section with your operating system such as xp, or 2000 etc. if not camra wont work. you need camera and software for your operating system... older cameras werent designed for newer os.

Check to make sure your battery pins are touching the connections on the battery. You might have to bend them slightly towards the battery to make a better connection. Else, I would get in touch with Fuji's support team. Good luck. -JHOBBS
I encountered the same problem, just last night. If it is the same, the only way I could get it to turn off was by taking the batteries out and the lens still would not retract. After re-installing the batteries several times with the same result, it would not turn off, I did this:
I re-installed the batteries and powered up the camera, I applied a little force/pressure to the lens and it went back in. After that the camera seems to be working fine.
I hope this helps,
Mike
