HP 640 fax

is it giving any error while giving print command? goto start settings printer & faxes open the printer icon by double click .any job is pending in the queue? try remove the usb cable and check t below the pinter icon whether it shows off line?

Sounds like it went kaput. I would try it in a different computer to confirm it is not a usb issue.

while the printer is powered on.....unplug the power module and then press and hold the # 3 button at the same time......while holding the two buttons reconnect the power module......will fix the problem.

Hello. If everything else is working, printing and copying, unplug the printer from the power source. Check the telephone line from your phone company by unplugging the fax machine from the wall jack where it is connected to. Plug a telephone device straight to that wall jack and check for a dial tone. If there's no dial tone, contact your phone company. If there is, plug the fax machine back to that wall jack. You can also try replacing the telephone cable with a another known working cable. Plug the printer back to the power source. Check again. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately wer purchased two new hp office jet 7610 which do not come with cabling and we could not get the fax to work. I spent 3 days on the telephone with hp and British Telecom each of which blamed it on each other. After doing some research on the internet I discovered that hp require a strange cable formant which is called a 'cross-over cable' is required. :just take out the catriges..plug outthe power cable ....then plug it bacvk in after 20 secnds,the printer will ask fr printer catriges ,puthem back in and try to perfom fnctions ,still problem persists ,follow following steps
:just go ahead and take ou the power cable
and press and hold # and 3 fr 30 seconds
while pressing them plug in the power cable
:similarly perform with # and 6
:ur problem will be resolved

Check your fax settings again follow the instructions on Printer menu and set the FAX rings to 5 or 10 and also check the paper settings and papers in tray. If not worked tell me the model of your fax machine.

The recipient may have a DSL phone line, or receiving to a fax server that blocks your area code.

I had this problem and I UNPLUGGED the printer and left it over night. It reset and works fine!

All fax machines are ANALOG devices. They are designed to work on POTS (Plain Old Telephone System). Any other condition is a **** shoot.
