Sounds like it went kaput. I would try it in a different computer to confirm it is not a usb issue.

It is totally possible that the wireless adapter is just old and not working as well as before.

You should try updating the drivers for it to see if that clears up any issues with finding networks.
If that doesn't work it may be time to start shopping for a new adapter.

You may want to download drivers and new updates for this model from the link above. You have to select your version (2) and you'll see the download to your left on the page.

Try plugging it into another USB port.and or another computer if you have one available. Test the USB port with another device to see if it maybe the problem. Also make certain your plugs are snugly in their sockets. But it I think you are right on target with the defective device point of view.
If you ruled out the things listed above...defective.

Normally this means that you are not putting in the security key or wireless key. Click on the linksys software then go to site survey select your network then click connect and type in the correct security key.

Hello, If you haven't changed it from default the ID and Password will be "admin". If it has been changed and you've forgot, there is a reset hole on back. Reset to default. Address would be 192.168.1.1 from there you can change SSID and password or enable WEP or WPA. Hope this helps.

Unplug the power cables of the router and the range extender for 30 seconds. Plug in the router first. Wait for all the lights to be stable then plug in the range extender. Your range extender should now be in synchronized with your router.
