I would like to know the proper temp. range in a frost free
upright freezer. My freezer varies from 0 degrees to 20

Even with new defrost thermostat and defrost timer, the temperature stays between 24 and 28 degrees.

I have changed the defrost thermostat. The feezer worked
for a few weeks. After it stopped cooling again, I changed
the thermostat timer. It would have times that the temp.
would be in the teens, but not consistant. The fan is running, but I'm not sure about the compressor.

Hi dgh1,
The freezer should stay within 5 degrees of 0 while in operation. While in defrost the freezer may reach as high as 20 to 25 degrees. If any higher temperatures are reached your food will spoil as they are defrosted and refroze everyday. If you find that the temperature is allowing your food to defrost you may want to replace your defrost thermostat. This device is located on top of the evaperator coil inside the back of the freezer. It is made to turn the heater off when a temperature of 55 degrees is reached. One other possible problem could be your defrost timer is taking to long to restart the cooling cycle after defrosting. I hope this will help you and please send any other questions you may have, I am happy to help. and dont forget to rate me.

Need lowest actual temps achievable by various upright freezers.

no rule of thumb
maybe if you got a different thermostat that has a lower setting than standard
however as upright freezers are very bad freezers compared to chest type freezers the lowest reading will be around the -35 degrees C
Why very bad -- every time you open the door you dump 20 degrees out onto the floor and the temp difference is more pronounced than opening the lid of a chest unit which keeps all of the cold in the unit
remember the colder the setting the more the compressor is working

Have upright frost free freezer alarm is going off about once or twice a day.Put a thermometer it is around 20 degrees I mute the al;arm and it beeps again and again after several hours. looked to clean...

Hi most deep freezers operate at 0 dergrees. your model may have 2 temp zones. 0 or 20 deg.I'm gessind that your sensor is going off when the defroster is on to melt ice (defrosting). Lower the setting. monitor and repeat as needed. if it continues you may need to replace the unit or ad freon. If the unit is over 13 years ge a new one.
