I'll start by saying your post indicates it is a MDE6800 Maytag dryer. I believe based on your description, this is similar to what you'll be looking for...



If you'd like to post back with an email address I can send you a repair manual that can guide in the tear-down process. Let me know and we can go from there.

Once you've gain access to the inner cabinet you'll have little trouble replacing the tumbler/paddle...gaining access is the "need to know" part or hard part...though not that hard. If this isn't the part in question, let me know...it's just my interpretation based on the description.

This could be a Control Board failure and this where I would start. I would try to recycle 120VAC power to the washer and see if that will restore operation. If that doesn’t clear the issue then I believe your Control Board has failed. Do you have surge protection at the washer 120VAC outlet? Have you had any recent electrical storm activity? The Service Manual can be found on this site follow the link I’m attaching. The Control Board is under warranty for 5 yrs from date of purchase. I got Maytag to send me a Control Board, I passed their owner technical savvy test. If you are the original owner, call Maytag customer service at 1-800-462-9824 www.maytag.com. They will ask you for your serial number that is found on the top right back side of the console. They will give you a number to call for authorized Maytag repair. I would insist that the repair service bring out a Control Board on the first visit. The p/n 25001217 for all FAV6800AW series.

Tip the machine back remove the belt try to turn the drive pulley manually . sorry the larger pulley in the centre. if you can turn it counter clockwise and feel the inner drum moving then the thrust bearing is ok. if not you may need to replace it.Also a bad lid switch can cause this problem.

my maytag atlantis does not spin fast enough to get all the water out.

I believe your machine is equipped with a "snubber plate" under the transmission. A lot of Maytag top-loaders are. This is a white teflon ring that is used as the wash tub and transmission support and assists in dampening vibrations during the spin cycles. It's located on the inside case of the machine under your transmission. When the snubber goes bad they generally start to squeak. They cannot be lubricated and must be replaced. If you try to oil them, they will eventually disintegrate. The snubber costs less than $10 to purchase. I hope this helps.
