My fridge has issues. first it ran fine for 2 weeks (my mom gave it to me and it always worked at her house) then after 2 weeks it stopped cooling, cool air was blowing but just barely. I checked the evaperator coils, they had a light layer of frost on them. I unplugged the fridge then plugged it back in and it worked.
then it stopped working. so i turned the thermostats down. then it worked.
then it stopped working. fridge sounds like it is struggling to turn on, like a car with a low battery. Evaperator coils go from lightly frosted to not at all throughout the day.
when fridge stops running I slam the freezer door and it starts up again.
this worked for about 2 days, now nothing. I unplug it and replug it - nothing. No noise, no fan, nothing running, no frost, slamming the freezer door doesnt do anything anymore
just a dead fridge, expect lights are on so it is getting power.
thanks for your help
i am low on cash these days ( who isnt?) so i am hoping it is an easy fix.
knowing my luck, though, it wont be :)

Let's get started, The 5min interval seems to be related to the thermostat. Always shut off the power whenever trouble shooting any electrical problem. These parts are located on the duct box, they are round and both have 2 wires on them.
when the sensor isn't working the heating element will stop working!
If your appliance is equipped with a sensor that detects when the filter should be changed, always check it physically to verify that it is clear. If it is clear and the problem persists, look for the sensor and change it.
It is not necessary to cycle each hour if the fridge can retain its temperature. Have a temperature check just before it starts having a cycle and at the end of it.
The milk probably is gone, but there may be something in your coils. Inspect from front at the bottom, behind toe kick trim or from the back by removeing the access panel on the lower back of the frig. Coil cleaning should be done with the frig unplugged, vacuum out the dust and with a small brush resembling a bottle brush but smaller. clean between the coils. Don't force the brush. Twisting with light pressure will work just fine.
ice build-up on the back wall indicates a defrost issue, check the defrost items. check the defrost timer, the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat, if you need more details let me know.
