Coputer slow and shuts down

Please check the air inlet, air outlet and the fan. If it is dirty, then you can clean it up using canned air.
If later the computer runs slow (but it does not shutdown), then you can use Norton Utility to fix the operating system. The download link:

I have a Toshiba satelite laptop that runs slow and says that it is neary full. I need to free some some space but do not know what to delete. Everything on it seams to relate to microsoft.

You may have installed every softwares on your System Drive (typically C:/, where the OS is installed). Try to install them on other partitions, this will free up some spaces.

You may try with Disk Cleanup utility. To use it go to: Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk CleanUp. This will ask you which of the disk to be cleaned up. Select the desired System Drive Letter and click on OK. You may delete Windows Error reporting files, System error memory dump files from there. You can also delete older restore points by clicking on Clean Up System Files. Select System drive letter as before and click on more options. Under System Restore and shadow copies click clean up. This will remove all but the latest restore point.

Hope this helps, Mrityunjay

Format the Operating system and start fresh

Some useless programs or virus's may be slowing down your system
a reset will enable you to regain full speed of your pc again.
And don't forget even with loads of memory the CPU may be lacking to run most of today's programs all at once.

I have an E1705 Inspiron. I have upgraded the memory to 2 GB of RAM. Still runs slow, especially since I added Office 2010 to my laptop. Please Help?

Hi,

You would have been better off factory restoring the laptop after you upgraded the RAM.

But if you don't want to do that you could clean the system and perform a disk check on the hard drive.

First off all you need to clean the temp and temp internet files and also the registry.

For this you will need to download and install a program called ccleaner.
This is a very useful tool when it comes to cleaning the system of unwanted files and registry keys which are obsolete. Read the info first before use. Get ccleaner here >>>

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Once you are done with ccleaner you will then need to perform a disk check.
To do this click on the start menu and again click on Run. In the box type cmd a command line window will open. For Vista type cmd in the search box and hit enter.
In the command line window type chkdsk /r and hit enter. You will get a message saying that the volume cannot be locked and would you like to schedule a disk check next time the computer restarts. Type Y and then hit enter. Close the window and restart your pc.

Disk check will start before loading the operating system and could take 2 to 3 hours to complete depending on the state of the volume.

If this still is not to your standard then you probably are best off backing up all your data and performing a factory restore on the laptop.

If you need anymore advice please post back.

Good luck.

may have a bug, restore your computer to earlier date when you noticed it starting to get slow. Go to system tools under accessories and restore to past date when it worked fine. You may have to reinstall some applications though but your files and photos will be safe.

Need to help to clean my recovery H disk is coming almost full.

A hard drive is usually partitoned, one hard drive will show up as two. The recovery drive should not be messed with. Don't add files , nor delete files from that drive.
