Hi and welcime to FixYa. I am Kelly

This is going to sound odd but.... this is how it it is recommended to field flash and inverter type generator. (Brushless) The steps are to (not kidding...) use a male mail interconnecting wire from your house wiring and plug in your generator and turn ON the main CB for 1 minute.

If this does not work.... See steps below amnual links.

Owners manual link: (Click on get manual)
http://lawnandgarden.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/homelite/hg6000_1.html

Or try this direct link:
http://lawnandgarden.manualsonline.com/support/homelite/portable-generator/request-manual-299128

This is a brushless generator... Not sure what the smoke was but... the yellow wires are for the capacitor winding. If you probe the capacitor terminals with one of the wires disconnected with a meter on R x 10,000 you should see a brief jump in resistance and then the meter drifts to infinity.
reverse the test leads and test again looking for the same result.

Next read resistance Yellow wire to Yellow Wire (Stator capacitor loop check) It should read low resistance

Also read Brown wire to Brown wire. This is the DC stator loop check. Is should read resistance.

Main winding checks Red to Blue and White to Brown that goes to the main breaker. OR Turn the Main breaker on.. White to lower left pin of 30A 4 pin output recepticle. Bot red to blue and White to Brown MUST read low resistance

These are all the checks except the rectifier and the rotor. You will probably find something during the above tests. If not... respond here and I will pass on the rotor and diode tests.

Kelly, I know this is an old thread, but I would like to know how to perform the rotor and diode tests. My problem is high voltage (no regulation). Thanks! Jim [email protected]

I need any info on a 20 in homelite super xl automatic ut#10045c.such as year made, fuel mixture, how many cc'so it is. All information that I can get will be great

I bought up a lot of Homelite parts when dealer went out of business about 20 years ago and have had interest in them since. I have worked on a few super xl's but cannot tell you for sure the fuel mixture but believe it probably changes over the years from 16-1 to 20-1 saw on internet one person claimed that that ut number used 32-1. Don't believe it would make any difference as long as you used good grade 2 cycle oil and it would not smoke near as bad as 16-1. One person on internet claimed that he still had the saw his Dad bought new in 1967 or 68 so they have been around that long but at that time I do not believe they had a UT number on them.
The cc is 57.4 and weighs 13.14 lbs. With 24" bar.

Husky 5000 watt generator quit producing power.

You could have a bad circuit breaker button. Replace that and see what happens.

If it is black smoke, it could be running rich and the correct carb will fix that. If it is blue smoke, then it is burning oil.

Problem with a ef1000 generator running rough. starts easy, gets to operation rev range, lasts for 5 to 20 sec, then runs rough, changed oil, air filter and plug cleaned carby, made little differance run...

I purchased a Propane Generator from Central Maine Diesel a few years ago.

20 HP Honda engine, Italian generator head.
Paid about $2300 plus shipping via Paradise Freight which was a few hundred.
I see the price is just a bit higher now... But the one I want most is Yuchai which i saw from a website.

Recently it blew a capacitor. Central Maine sent me 2 for the price of one even though it is out of warranty. $39 total for two.

I looked at generators on island but a similar Honda at Quality electric was close to $6000 and it wasn't even a 13750kw. More like 8 or 9000kw if I remember right.....

They have many generators at great prices but this is the one I settled for.

However, it is said that the Cummins generator is more popular than others.

Homelite 6000 Generator running rough, now won't start

Sounds like the engine is not getting enough fuel. Two possible problems:
1) I know this is a dumb question, but did you turn the fuel back on?
2) If the answer to question 1 is yes, then the small fuel filter inbetween the gas tank and carburetor probably has hardened. The inside of the fuel filter is a piece of foam and it is really common for the in line fuel filters to harden when no fuel is present and cause a clog in the fuel line. Try replacing the inline fuel filter and life should be good!
