Rolling vertical Line

I have a 36" Sony (KV-36HS500) that usually has a crystal clear picture, however, lately I'm getting a faint vertical line that continually rolls across the screen in the background. It's more pronounced when the screen background is dark. I have observed it while playing DVD's and while watching satellite TV, so I'm pretty sure it's the TV.
Any clues as to what this could be?

    Thanks! I will try grounding the satellite coaxial through the power strip and let you know if that works.

    I tried grounding the satellite coaxial via the power strip, as suggested, but the problem still persists.

Hi,

Based on your post/description, it would seem to be AC hum riding into the video input signal. Initially, a couple of ideas you could try:

  • change the wall outlet where the Sony is plugged in;
  • use a surge protected and filtered power strip. This is a multiple outlet with built-in filtering;
  • plug in the video of either the DVD or Sat receiver into another Video INput;
  • remove the AC plu/connection of the DVD when watching Sat and/or vice-versa;
  • change your Audio/Video cable;
  • remove any other electronic device(s) near the TV such as cordless phones, clocks, cellphone chargers, lamps with electronic ballasts;
  • Use an appropriately rated AVR, something similar to those used in computers.
If all else fails, it may be necessary to open the Sony and perform diagnosis. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

If Capacitors C6590 and / or C6503 (1200MF 250V) got leaky in power supply board this noise bar appear on screen. If you have know-how of tv repair, please check above said capacitors.

HI if you can see my Comment (please Rate ) FIxYa

the lines being present during video playback only also means the problem is likely in the "jungle chip" as previously reported. The fact that it shows up only when in video input will make it easier for the tech to locate the problem, so be sure and tell them this is the case when you describe the problem.

You may get lucky and find that it is a simple capacitor that is going bad for which the replacement cost is only a few dollars, but don't bet on it. More likely a major chip will need replaced or a board for which the cost will be as stated.

I have a red line through my photos.

Answer ID 16497 Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? --> With some DSLR cameras, a normally clear LCD screen is used to display Auto Focus area brackets in the viewfinder. When power is supplied to the screen, you may sometimes see a faint vertical line appear in your viewfinder. This is perfectly normal and is just part of the finely etched circuitry used to power and illuminate the liquid crystal segments of the AF area brackets.

TV TURNS ON,LINES ACROSS SCREEN THEN TURNS OFF BY ITSELF

sounds like a vertical problem, usually you'll see one white line across the screen, but one I worked on would come on and the bottom half of the picture was gone and there were lines across the top of the screen.

If you know how to solder & can find the vertical output chip then you could try resoldering the pins. If this doesn't fix it then it needs new parts.

SONY KV-36HS500 will not turn on. Stand-by mode blinks 6 times then repeats. Repair man checked out our phone system earlier today for signal loss and put 500 V generator on phone line to house to check...

the light blinking six times indicates a probable horizontal circuit failure usually a shorted horiz out transistors but this is not the only component located in this circuit that could create this problem, sorry but i am affraid you'll need to get a tech to diagnose it to the component level or get another pc board to repair it. hope this helps some.

No picture or sound

6 blinks usually means a loss of the horizontal signal. This can be as simple as a bad capacitor or jungle IC. I'll look up your specific model, but do you intend to repair this yourself? If so, please update this and I'll provide additional details and instructions.

Green lines

Due to vertical section failure horizontal line apprears. You did not mention about picture. Green horizontal line means with picture or without picture. With picture means there is some leakage. Without picture only singe horizontal line means vertical section totally not working. Particularly green horizontal line means maybe leads to jungle ic failure. Please mention your simptom clearly what you get and what you will not get both video and audio. It will be helpful to answer. Based on your question this is my small information.

Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-36HS500 36" TV - Bowed Picture

it sounds like a convergence adjustment problem. If you hava book on the tv still read it, and it will tell you what to do, other wise, look for a convergence button on the front of your tv, and take the remote and push menu to bring up setup, and go convergence adjustment click it and hit the conv. button on the front of the screen. there should be to lines going vertical and horizontal, these are the limes you adjust with your remote, you have to adjust the red and blue, the tv should blink to let you know which color you are on. when you have them lined up right the line will be perfectly white. hope this helps
