Bravia will not detect laptop. laptopdoes detect

If your Sony came with a CD or DVD, you may need to install special drivers so your PC can find the set.
If it didn't, you may have to select the external VGA output on your laptop to activate it; not all laptops have that output turned on by default.

It turn on turns back off and start blinking

First try a hard reset

TURN OFF... UNPLUG and leave overnight or several hours. reconnect and try to turn it on. If still faulty it will require technical intervention. This is not DIY repairs as it requires specialized knowledge of circuitry and tools. Unlike PC's these units have low tolerance to board swap jockey tactics and will end up costing you 3 times the value of a service technicial repair if you attempt it.

Have a Sony Bravia that is showing red lines or

Chances are it is the T-CON Board that is on the LCD Panel. Problem is , you can only get the T-CON board when you replace the LCD Panel. The Cost would be more than the unit cost to buy new.
I hope this helps,

KDF-50a12U Powers off then standby light blinks 3 times

Please recheck Lamp Cover and make sure it is fixed in its space securely as 3 times red blink shows lamp cover error.
There is small safety switch in TV cabinet under lamp cover that has to be pushed by lamp cover if it is fixed in its position properly. That switch is not being pressed by lamp cover and causing this error.
Thanks.

Input selection

If you cannot select a HDMI input then it is not sensing that a HDMI signal is present. Be sure the HDMI cable is not bad and the source is working. If it is then you would probably need a Signal Board. To be sure, a Sony Service facility should check it out. Sony Customer Service Number is 1800-222-SONY.
Hope this helps

T.v on standby, red light flashing 3 times, wont switch on

Shutdown with a 3x blink pattern occurs if the 12v from the power supply (GF1 or GF2 depending on model) is lost at CN6153/pin 6 to the AU Board Q1224 to Sub Micro IC1205. The suspects, in order of likelihood, are (1) Power supply and (2) the AU board.

When turning on the screen comes on for 2 seconds,

Standard blinking codes for Bravia sets for US only goes to 10 blinks which points to faulty or short circuited components inside whereas the Australian range of KDL's goes to 13 blinks of the LED which points to a faulty balancer and must be taken into a service department.

My sony bravia tv is flashing red stand by light

Try leaving the TV unpugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself.
If that doesn't work, most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you flashing red light codes, circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

Sony bravia on fire!

This type of failure is not common. You indicate that the set is slightly over a year old. As a first step, I would attempt to request a warranty repair from Sony. If the set is close to the 1 year limit, it may be a bit of a fight, but you may get this repaired under warranty. Realize that you will need to speak to a manager, not the initial rep on the phone. Have a copy of your purchase receipt with the purchase date. Now to the probable problem. In all likelyhood, a capacitor has failed in the power supply section. Depending upon its function within the circuit, it is possible that it caused the smoke. Until you have a final resolution with Sony, DO NOT open up the unit. Once you do, any possibility of warranty service is voided. Please update this with any progress you make with Sony and we'll continue from there. Dan
