I have a 4 month old sony bravia 1080 120mhz Sony

Not common but electronics are electronics , we can have failures right out of the box. Generally Sony is reliable and I must say that you should not have to worry about cost , Is it not under warranty - its only 4 months old !!

Stand-by light flashing. No picture

This is bad the 13 blinks is a display issue. To repair your set you have to get a panel.. CALL SONY and raise hell.. I have seen this repaired by sony even after there factory warranty was up. Price of a panel is like 5 grand.

Screen goes blank / black, sound still works

It sounds like your LCD Screen is no longer working. I would try contacting Sony and ask for a refund. I had the same T.V and the LCD Screen had gone out. A techniction came out and Condemned the screen and i had to pay $500 for a new T.V.

Half the screen is black

I think its either the X-sus or Y-Sus Boards which control the display. These are 2 boards with heatsinks on them, lots of capacitors and are at either edge of the screen.

Can't get audio via optical port.

ok, i think the problem lies with the tv, there must be a setting in the sound menu to use optical as sound out, as the sound will be via the HDMI cable, i applogise if you have checked this.

Sony KDL-40V3000

Sorry to hear this, It looks like you have a bad panel, more specifically a bad t-con board but this board is supplied as part of the panel. The panel for you tv costs over $1000, If I were in your shoes I would call sony and complain, they have been knowen to assist you in some way IE pay for the part and you pay labor or sometimes they take care of the job in full. They are going to want an estimate from an authorized service center in your area. You may want to have one come out and write you up an est and then call sony and complain. Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks
Tim
