There is a slight but barely noticeable darken line across the screen but the tv stays on now and the picture is good. I don't
know if the lamps can be replaced but why bother now.

If you have a DVR box or a cable modem of some sort, try rebooting it. Just turn it off for 20 seconds and then turn it back on. It takes a while to reset, but I have used this method to solve many problems with my tv and computers.

I have a Bravia KDL40-V4000
The image on the screen is generated this way in your tv: the tuner receives the channel and extracts the signal out of it; the image processor from the mainboard uses the signal to generate the data for the image: the T-con board gets this data and generate the commands for the pixels from the LCD panel accordingly.
In your case either the connection between the T-Con board responsible for that part of the screen is loose, just refit it - or the board itself is failing.
This is a replacement board

I am having sony bravia
Possible that the TV has a short or faulty circuit in the main board. So it is important to have a check on the main drivers of the mother board , look for faulty drivers, faulty electrolytic capacitors that are short or faulty semiconductors
You must disconnect the SMPS and then check with the main circuit using a multimeter looking for the power circuit. Check if there is possibility of dry soldering- a tap on the board can confirm.
Does this model have Bravia sync?
