2 problems.. AC Comp cuts out. And Fan will not stop.

Unit#2 -Sounds like the contacts on the master switch are welded closed or the switch is broken, Replacing the switch should fix this unit.
#1 is a little more difficult to diagnose. The compressor is being taken off line by a circuit that protects the compressor from damage either; 1- liquid refrigerant getting back to the compressor which can be caused by something as simple as a clogged return air filter or evaporator coil on a heat pump or 2- overload situation caused by a bad condenser motor or a clogged condenser coil. The first thing you need to do is clean both coils and replace the filter,. Then check to be sure your getting good airflow across both coils. I think it's most likely an airflow issue I hope this resolves the problem GL!

Formula to calculate rating of capacitors in

It's not fixed formula, but as per basic rule, easy method tocalculate for motor capacitor. (2650 X full load amps) divided by supply voltage(mentionedin capacitor)= MFD. (Plus or minus 10% to 15%) Ex: 1 Tr which gives full load amps of 6 amps (2650 X 6)=15900 divided by 240(VAC)volts=66.25MFD (10% to 15% plus or minus) You can fix 56.32 mfd or 76.18mfd So, you can go in between 56.32 mfd and 76.18 mfd. If you calculate of 440VAC capacitor, it will be 36 mfd. Hope, it will be helpful . Thanks.

Where is the reset button

I don't think the Amana ASZ14 Heat Pump has a reset switch, but you can still reset it by resetting the power (when it's not running... turn your thermostat OFF first). To reset the power, locate your circuit breaker box. There should be a double-breaker for the Heat Pump and another double-breaker for the Air Handler. Turn them both off for at least 2-3 minutes. Then flip them back on and turn your thermostat back ON. You're thermostat may also have a RESET button that you can push. I have to reset mine every time I change the batteries in it. When the system is in the heating mode of operation and a dirty indoor coil is present, the system will have high sub-cooling?

subcooling is only a factor in the cooling mode. you convert the discharge psi to temperture and measure liquid line tempsrture. subtract difference it should be between 8 to 12 degrees.

Too large of a metering piston in the indoor coil during cooling mode operation will cause the indoor coil to flood with refrigerant. True or False

That's correct. If the piston opening is too large it will allow more frozen through than designed and flood the evaporator coil.

My heat pump is shot and is operating off the

You mean you are using the Emergency heat setting instead of the heat pump????...You're using Natural gas only now tn emergency heat????That's fine...I wouldn't replace a heat pump if you have Natural gas....it's too expensive compared to Gas....you may be able to still use the heat pump as an Air Conditioner only , it depends on what's wrong with it...otherwise you will have to get a Central Air unit instead...cheaper and just use the Gas for heat

Heater, ac and fan speeds all working fine. Compressor not kicking in...just auxiliary heat working.

Outside temp too low, so outside thermostat and it's settings will not allow the heat pump to work. But insist on the ausilary heat to work instead. Heat pumps usually do not produce enough heat when below 40F outside temp. If you have Gas heat, it may be more economical than the heat pump below 40F. If electric auxilarry heat, it may compete at 32F. Talk to your dealer, installer, or manufacture.

Why does the air conditioner works fine but no heat

A bit more info would help - like "nothing as in switched off" or "nothing as in motors all running but nothing gets hot". If you mean that it all sounds and looks as though it is working but there is no heat, then it is possible your changeover valve is jammed. There is usually a four way valve which effectively decides which way your a/c is going to be pumping. Other reasons are that on this model, it checks to make sure there is at least a 5C difference before it will try and work. For more help, please be a bit more descriptive as to what it IS doing as well as what it is not - eg: fans / compressor on? strange noises, hissing / error messages and also indoor / outdoor temps
