Amana ABC2037SS Air Conditioner Questions & Answers
Need to know what freon
Its actually called Refrigerant. Freon is a manufacture name like shell gas or chevron gas though they are 89 octane. You should have a plate on your unit that will read the refrigerant type. 6 years old was during the transition of a lot of different refrigerants. Common ones would be r-22, r-410a, r-134a, r-407c. Basically look for the r-number and that would be the refrigerant type. Many units can be made to run different refrigerants though they are the same unit. Its important to get the refrigerant right due to oils pressures ect.
Amana prestige II AC, outside unit erratic runs for a few seconds then cuts off
Hi there, this could be caused by several problems, unit shutting off on high head pressure due to the coil being very dirty. You can kill the power and take a water hose and was the coil out very good. Careful not to mash the aluminum fins for air flow. If this does not solve the problem, take the electrical panel off and look all of the wiring over for any burned or loose connections. You may need to call a service tech out so that they can check the internal windings off the compressor and the freon pressures. Hopefully its just a dirty coil and you will be good.Shastalaker7
How often do fuses need
Never unless theree is a problem. You either have something shorting to ground or you are over amping a circut. Amping issues could be a loose electrical connection, over charge is system, or windings in a motor could be going bad. Check to see all your electrical connections are tight first. Then you will need to refer to your units data plate and look for the RLA = rated load amps. Check amps on your line wire to each motor usually the black wire. Fuses pop for a reason not just because they do.
Amana Prestige Central A/C,inside fan on out side
Hi!!
Replace motor fan and capacitor of the outside unit. it is a very simple task. Turn breaker OFF. Then all you have to do is remove about four screws from the top grill, about four more that fasten the motor fan assembly, unplugg electrical connectors and label them and install the new one and switch fan blades.
No special knowledge is required to perform this job. Cost: about $140 +-.
On the other hand, you call a HVAC technician, they supply the motor and capacitor, otherwise they won't give you warranty. Cost $300. Look on the Yellow Pages for one in your neighborhood.

Amana Central Air not working
Blinking red lights on circuit boards usually mean an error has occured. Check all your wiring and connections. Make sure the blower fan spins freely. Check the sensor wiring. Do you smell burnt electrical any place? Are you familiar with pulling the circuit board and checking the solder points on the back side?
My Amana Prestige Ultra Central
Ok sounds like your transformer is not working. Now as long as no one has removed the doors to the furnace cabinet and they are in place just like the are suppose to be, because there is a door switch that turns off the power to the whole unit until the door is in place correctly. Find the circuit board and look to see it you have a fuse on the board it will look like a car fuse the spade type they are 5 amp fuses. If it is good find the transformer and replace it. If you feel comfortable around electricity there are two sides to the transformer line voltage which is 120 and the secondary side which is 24 volts. If you have a volt ohm meter ohm out the transformer each side line side and low voltage side. An open on either side will be noticed and then replace the transformer. I know this is alot of things to check but just elimanating everything it could be before condemming the transformer. Turn the main breaker off and replace.
I'm not getting any code after installing a control board for my Amana ptac?
Does the power light come on?
If yes, then you can do a reset as below:
There is a master switch on the bottom left of the control board. Slide that to 'off' position.
Then press the hot and cold switch/key together and then slide the master switch back to 'on'.
Please put your response/observation here if that does not work or there is power light as asked on top.
Thanks
Amana PTH153B50AM PTAC where the heat runs intermittently.
i'm not familiar with your specific unit but ..sounds like an electronic gas value has gone bad or has a bad connection when that happened to my friend it wasn't that expensive to have it fixed .. BYW it acted like this for a while then stopped working completely
Amana Wall unit blows cold air before heating
The cold that you describe may be just unconditioned air? If you are certain you can hear the comp operating for a couple of minutes, and then the heat starts, I would guess it is a reversing valve issue if it's a heat pump and it probably is. Or the control board acting up. I've had a lot of issues with the boards in the Amanda PTAC units. I can't remember how to configure it, but if you Google "Amanda ptac configuration", there is a lot of info online. May try a reset method first. Hope this helps!
