I have a Polaroid FLM-373B
That situation clearly indicates that no signal is coming to the set in its present setting. Have you checked to make sure that the tv's input is set on the right input setting. Mine always defaults to "Antenna" which drives me nuts cause I get that big blue screen with "no signal". It seems to do that at the slightest provocation, too. After 5 years, I still have to think twice before checking it. If that is not it, make sure that the cables are plugged in. If that doesn't fix it try another type of input such as HDMI or S video, composite, etc - one that you are not using. Don't forget to switch the input to it. Good luck!

Need help fixing sound on poloroide hdtv
There is not enough information to tell for sure, but a good bet is bad capacitors on the power supply board. Go to this repair page - your electrolytic capacitors in the power supply are probably failing:

What is the part number
If you still are having problems with your TV after trying the following repair page: electrolytic capacitors in the power supply are probably failing:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r741402-polaroid_flm_373b_lcd_tv_black_screen Then you should just write the TV off because another 37" Toshiba or Panasonic is less than $600 and that part is expensive! The part number might be down in the posts for this problem as well.

My sound does not work but I can plug a speaker
Your speaker might have bit the dust, but it is more likely that the TV thinks that you are using another sound system. Do you have something else hooked up to it as well? I would try to disconnect everything but the tv input to see. If you get no sound with everything else disconnected, the tv's speakers are probably disconnected somehow. Is there one of your menu settings that shuts off the set's speakers?

I moved a digital tv converter off (didnt need it)
Probably. Didn't you have a separate remote for the tv? If not, I would suggest that you go to the internet and try to find instructions for reprogramming it if you don't know how. You also could go to WalMart or Home Depot or the like and buy a universal remote.

I suspect you may have 2 capacitors in your control module that need to be replaced. When these caps start to go bad it will often show up as a problem with the sound. However, when they get really bad they can prevent the TV from turning on. Please see the link below, posted by stiv0. It gives detailed instructions on how to replace these caps and to tell if they're getting bad. If you follow these instructions you can take the back off the TV and check out the caps. If the tops of the caps are bulging they need to be replaced. Just be sure to replace them with the correct value (1000uf) and use caps that are rated at a higher voltage than the originals. I replace the 10v caps in my FLM 373B with 30V caps just to be on the safe side. If you know how to solder this is an easy and inexpensive fix. If you don't know how to solder find a friend who does. These caps have positive and negative terminals. It's important you solder the new caps in with the correct polarity. Stiv0 gives instructions on this. Even if the caps aren't bulging this fix is so inexpensive, less than 10$, that you may want to try it anyway. I hope this helps you out.

When the tv is turned
If the squeal is heard on all av inputs and normal channels it would suggest a failure of the internal audio amplifier requiring a visit from a techie, try unpuging scarts etc to try and isolate the fault
