Had exactly the same problem with my W995. I'm with T mobile. Took it into a T mobile shop and they put it on a PC and updated the software. No more problems. I thought I needed a new battery as I had the same message - "must insert a sony battery." Chap in the shop said its a common software fault on this phone.

PUK code and PIN Code:

Please dont try more than 3 times.If you try more than 3 times the Sim will get locked.And it will ask for PIN code.Both these PUK and PIN code can be given only by the network service provider. Please call the network service provider of your mobile.And ask him to provide the PUK code or PIN code.He will ask you some basic details like name,date of birth for his verification.And he will provide you the PUK and PIN code.This is done for free of cost.

Could mean a few things, normally it's because either something has become wedged in it, sand etc. or the spring mechanism has corroded due to liquid damage.
Take it to a local repair shop and they should be able to look, a new spring shouldn't cost alot...

all you have to do is go to the cellphone technician and have it check... first try to check the keypad membrane of #9 and asterisk...if it is corroded or dirty/rusty...clean it then check again if it is functioning or not.... or check the flex cable of the phone...

HI, PUK code can be given only by your service provider which is specific for each and every mobile number.

The puk code for telephone is the special code that allows you to do a master reset on the telephone. You will also need that number to unlock the telephone after it has been locked.

Contact your sim customer care department over phone. Its free of cost to get the pin or puk no.
If you cant contact through your phone get some other phone and contact them.

Go to the nearest service outlet of your service provider they can also help you.

If you want to format the memory of your phone, just navigate to Main menu, then settings and under general tab, you will find Master reset, just reset all the default code is 0000.
But if you want to get your phone as in "Out of the box" condition, you need to have your USB data cable of this phone with you. If you have it then goto this link, download and install the utility. And follow the instructions. After an update your phone will be as factory fresh.

Hi the PUK code is a security code for the sim card and not the phone, the only people who have this code is your service provider all you need to do is give them a call and ask them for your PUK code, when you buy a new phone or get a new sim card the PUK code is written on the card the sim card comes attatched to, this code is between 8 and 11 digits long and the only place you can get it from is your service provider, give them a call and ask them for your PUK code and they will give it to you over the phone.

the other option you have is if you dont need to use the sim card thats asking for the code all you need to do is get a new or another sim card and put this in your phone it will then not ask for the code or if its a new sim card the code will be with the card the sim card was stuck to.

If Your battery wont charge instead it is requesting for You to enter a sony battery, then there is a problem somewhere that need to be checked. It is either the battery is bad and require You to replace it or the charger is not working fine or probably the phones connection port is bad. You need to run a test on the 3 before you can tell which is the problem. First run a test on the battery. To test the battery please follow the steps below:

1. Turn off Your phone,
2. Remove the battery,
3. Insert it in another phone,
4. Turn it on to see if it will ask you to insert a sony battery, if it does then it means the battery is bad and need to be replaced, but if it does not, then it means it is You phone that is not recognizing the battery,

To test the phone,

1. Insert in another battery into Your phone,
2. Power it on,
3. Check if it will request for You to enter a sony battery, if it does, then it means the phone is faulty and the connection port is bad, but if it accepts the battery, then it means the phone is alright.

Finally, test the charger,

1. Try to use it on another phone to see if it will charge,
   
2. if it charges, then it means the charger is alright, but if it does not charge, then it means the phone is alright,

That way after carrying out the tests, you must have detected the problem and solved the problem.
