It could also be a faulty component in the abs system, like a wheel bad sensor. Have the abs trouble codes read to find out exactly what is wrong.
Hi, when the brake light is on, there is usually a hydraulic issue or leak. First check the reservoir to see if you have lost fluid. If yes, check all wheels and lines for leaks. If no leaks and system seems to be working OK, maybe it's just an ABS wheel speed sensor. Those do not usually set the brake light, but every car is different. Check all the sensors for alignment to the tone rings. If problem persists, get the ABS scanned for trouble code. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6003525-abs_traction_control_lights .
