My gear shift is stuck in park. I was able to release it by resetting the pink button inside the console. However that did not solve the problem. I need to know what part needs to be replaced. Is it the cable to the gear shift or the entire assembly?

If pressing the pink button allows you to shift from park then it is not the common failure of the "key release" mechanism ("
pink thingy"). The pink button under the coin tub manually releases the electronic brake lock. The electronic brake lock is controlled by the brake light switch on the pedal. Check to make sure your brake lights are working. If so then verify you are getting voltage to the solenoid in the console while depressing the brake.

2008 dodge avenger stuck in park but cluster reads neutral

First thing to do is check and see if the brake lights work, the brake lights power the release solenoid so you can move the gear selector from part to the desired gear.

Dodge magnum will not shift from Park. We have found the pink button that is next to the gear shift, but this does not release it. We found 2nd pink button which releases it from park, but have to push...

Replace the brake switch. This is what releases the shifter. It is probably multi wire. Located half way up the brake pedal arm. easy to replace.

I have a 2006 charger hemi, the gear stuck in park. How do I get it ou of park

its might have something to do with your brake lights. if the computer doesnt sense the brake lights come when u hit the pedal it wont release the car from park. to temporarily get your car out of park, remove the coin tray that on the side of the shifter, just give it a good tug, ull see a pink lever the console, just push the pink level while shifting the handle and you'll be good to good. fyi u only need to push that pink lever when shifting from park.

Trying to locate the gear shift release button in my chrysler 300

The shifter has two problems that does not let you go out of park, either you push the overide pink button thats on the right interior edge of shifter that releases it... If that doesnt work its another pink pin in front of the shifter, you would have to take shifter console apart to get to it and release it. This is usually the problem.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

does the gear shifter move? if the gear shifter moves and it wont shift then you have broken linkage, if it wont move you may have ignition linkage problems or the button may not be pushing in all the way, also the brake pedal is tied in too

Gear shift stuck in park

The BTSI (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock) has a small spring retainer on the park safety. A small plastic tab breaks & releases the spring. This requires the shifter to be disassembled in order to be repaired.

Repaired mine Sunday May 1st and can provide detailed instructions if desired.

If you are lucky, your brake interlock is the only problem. There is a bypass switch located beside the gear selector. Remove the small "cubby" bin located next to the gear shift by simply lifting up to remove. You will note a small access port and a pink button contained therein. Press the pink button to override the brake interlock.

If you still cannot shift into park, then the shifter must be removed for the spring repair. Even if yours is still under warranty, you will get another shifter that will eventually fail due to poor engineering.

Please let me know if you would like my assistance.

Gear stick stuck!

Are you pressing down on the brake padle when you are trying to get it out of park? If that don't work check the fuses & there may be a relay that's may be related to a safty divice to the stick shift. If you don't press the brake padle the stick shift will not release so if you leave the car running a child could not push in gear. The lock silinoid is at the gear console

2006 chrysler pacifica shifter wont go out of park shifter

This happened to me. And googleing the solution was very unproductive so I decided to take stuff apart and figure it out. I fixed it. Here's how. First, other forums told me that pressing on the brake releases a lever that allows you to shift from park, and that is true. Then I was told that the mechanism that releases that lever is broken and you can remove the gear shift trim, press on a pink lever to release the gear shift. That did NOT work and besides, when I pressed on the brake, I still heard the 'click' and that told me that the brake/release mechanism still functioned and that I should look elsewhere for the problem.

Here's what ultimately solved the problem. I had to remove the gear shift housing. In order to do that, I had to remove the center console. At first, it seemed like a daunting task but in the end, screw/fastener removal was logical and the parts went back together in a snap. Still, my wife saw the project mid-progress and got scared. No worries, happy ending. Anyway, once I removed the gear shift housing, I noticed another pink lever that was never mentioned in any of my google attempts. This other pink lever fits in a notch within the gear shift assembly and should be released as soon as you push the gear shift to the right on it's way down to the reverse position but only if the key is turn to the 'On' position. This lever is spring loaded. In my case, the little tiny plastic clip on the inside of the gear shift housing that holds a 10 cent spring (I'm guessing its 10 cents) was broken. That's it.

So my choices were to either by a new gear shift housing assembly for $300+ or use a dremmel tool to saw off the portion of the this pink lever that fits inside the aforementioned notch. I'm broke so I chose the later. 3 hours later, my 2006 Pacifica was mobile again. So what's the down side of sawing that piece off? Now it's possible to pull the key out of the ignition while the car is still running. If you can deal with that, you can save a lot of money. However, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF HARM COMES TO YOU OR YOUR CAR BY PERFORMING THE SAME FIX AS I DID! But now you know.
