bad wheel bearings, is it from both sides or just one wheel??

Yes the front wheels will spin the front shaft but the shaft is not engaged until 4 wheel drive is engaged.

Two things maybe your problem:1 .Front axle actuator to engage 4wd is not releasing. 2. Front axle u-joint needs replacing. Lift car on jacks with front end off ground. Then spin tires by hand as fast as you can and see if you hear the noise and where it is coming from ( spin in both directions).

There is most likely only a fill plug, should be towards the top on the side of the diff, either have to suck out old fluid or take diff cover off

I need to replace the front differential on my 1999 Chevy blazer but first I have to remove the bad one How do I get the front differential out??Could use a diagram also to help when I put it back together
To remove any diff you have to remove the axles as they will hold the diff centre in the housing. Remove drive shaft and the bolts around the diff centre. you may need to break the gasket seal to get the centre to move. A workshop manual for the vehicle would be the best idea you would have.

The front drive shaft turns always when the front tires roll because they are directly connected,,unless you have installed manual hubs on the wheel housing

My 2000 zr2 blazer wont go into 4wd wheni push the button,the light just blinks,and i hear a clicking noise from behind the glovebox
If it's like any other Blazer, a possible simple fix is to disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes. That resets the computer system. It worked for my Blazer. I had the same problem. Mine went into low range, but my front axle wouldn't engage. So give it a try. The only thing you'll mess up is the clock in the radio.

99 Blazer will not engage 4x4
4x4 actuator may be bad. its has an elctrical switch. this is the part that pushes your front drive shaft forword to engage the front diff. it also may not be aligned properly. You should also check your transfer case fluid level and the front diffs fluid.

Determine if front diff or transfercase is bad
sounds like the chain is stretched. with vehicle in air you can rotate the front and rear and see how much play is in two yokes. with it in 4hi and will probably hear chain slapping case when you do

First you need a transfer case, then you need a shorter rear drive shaft. You need a front diff. same ratio as the rear diff. you need a front drive shaft. You need different trailing arms. Should I go on ?
