Sounds like a couple of washers are missing from rhe adapter that takes up the additional space. Try to install a split type washer in their place, so you can tighten down better. Good luck.if the problem is the screw on the battery that should be permanent is spinning. Try securing the center threads while tightening"assuming theyre aide mount type" maybe with a pair of vice grips to hold the bolt in place while you tighten the nut.

SOURCE: The positive battery terminal has corroded through

Yes, go to subaru dealer and buy org part. It will come with end and new wire attached. You will have to attach to starter. Not the easiest way to fix, but the best way. You can just cut off end and replace with a new one from autoparts store. Get battery cleaner and spray on battery and rinse off to get all corrosion off or you will have same problem again quickly.

SOURCE: the positive cable connection to my battery has

How far back from the end of the connection did it break? Is your battery connection side or top connection? If there is enough cable to reach the battery terminal, you can pick up a replacement connection that clamps to the original cable at a parts store. Clean up the area with baking soda mixed with water to form a paste, coat everywhere you see corrosion, it will bubble like crazy, rinse with water. Just keep water away from electronics. Coat cable connections with grease or vaseline to prevent future corrosion.

Installing a distributor in a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.9 LT

Replacing Distributors: 1998 to 2005 models
  • Trace the spark plug wires to the distributor; it will be at the back of the engine block, in a cramped space.

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable to the distributor and unhook the air cleaner tube. Unscrew or unhook the clamps holding the distributor cap in place, and unscrew the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor connector with a screwdriver.

  • Matchmark the distributor housing and the rotor for later realignment, as well as the distributor housing and the intake manifold. Unbolt the holding clamp and remove the distributor.

  • Set the engine at Top Dead Center (TDC) mark of the No. 1 cylinder compression stroke with a socket with breaker bar (long-handled ratchet).

  • Install the Ram distributor, replace the clamp and lightly tighten the bolt. The distributor part number is A1303801 from Parts Train, but numbers differ from different manufacturers. Order using the model, year and engine size.

  • Turn the distributor in its seating so the rotor lines up with the No. 1 cylinder mark on the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor. Bolt the clamp bolt to 200 foot pounds (22.5 Nm).

  • Reattach the CMP sensor connector and use the screws or clamps to replace the distributor cap. Connect the air cleaner tube and the negative battery cable

How do you change the fuel pump?

How to Change the Fuel Pump on a 1998 Taurus

Instructions Things You'll Need:

  • Siphon kit
  • Gas can
  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Screwdriver
  • Block of wood
  • Brass punch or wood rod
  • Wrench
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Torx wrench
  • Carburetor cleaner spray
  • Acetone or lacquer thinner
  • Clean rags
  • Heavy grease
  • O-ring
    Preparation
  1. Siphon as much fuel out of the tank as possible with a vacuum pump and deposit it into a gas can.
  2. Unplug the fuel pump inertia switch located behind the trim panel on the right side of the trunk. Start the engine and wait for it to stall.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable in the engine compartment. Loosen the clamp nut for the battery's black cable with a wrench and remove the cable from the battery terminal.
  4. Raise the car with its own floor jack and support it on jack stands, available from any auto parts store. Support the car on its rear end where the fuel cap and tank are located.
  5. Removing the Tank
  6. Open the gas cap door and remove the three bolts on the metal flange surrounding the filler neck (the pipe that you pump gasoline into) with a wrench.
  7. Disconnect any metal braces between the filler tube and the car body and supporting the tube. Remove their bolts or screws with a wrench/screwdriver.

  8. Disconnect the fuel and vapor line clamps with a screwdriver, then disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector and the connector to the emission shutoff valve.
  9. Raise a floor jack under the fuel tank under the right rear corner of the car near the fuel cap. Place a block of wood large enough to cover the entire top part of the jack to protect the tank.
  10. Unbolt the tank's support straps twrapped around the bottom of the tank with a wrench. Disconnect any other fuel lines and electrical connectors remaining on the top of the tank; press on their quick-connect fittings.
  11. Removing the Pump
  12. Tap the fuel pump assembly's locking ring counterclockwise with a wood rod or brass punch until it loosens.
  13. Lift the long, curved fuel pump module out of the tank until you can reach its locking tabs, then squeeze the tabs together with your fingers and remove the fuel pump module from the tank. Pull off and discard the lock ring gasket from the top of the module.
  14. Separate the fuel pump from the assembly by removing its clamp with pliers, disconnecting its electrical connector with pliers and removing its mounting screws. Use a Torx wrench to remove the screws.
  15. Clean the fuel pump's mounting flange, tank mounting surface and seal ring groove with acetone or lacquer thinner and a clean rag.
  16. Detach the strainer from the assembly by removing its C-clip with a small flat screwdriver. Wash the strainer with carburetor cleaner spray and reconnect it to the assembly. Clip the C-clip in place by hand.
  17. Installation
  18. Mount the replacement fuel pump in place on the module using its mounting screws and the Torx wrench, then plug in the electrical connector and connect the clamp by hand.
  19. Align the fuel pump assembly with the retainer within the tank and push it into the retainer with your hands until the tabs click into place.
  20. Install the pump assembly's sender plate by hand. Make sure the locating keys are in the keyways and the O-ring is in place.
  21. Install a new seal ring on the fuel pump module by pushing it in place on the locking ring's underside; rub heavy grease on the seal ring to hold it in place. Insert the module into the hole in the tank and turn the locking ring clockwise to lock it in place.
  22. Connect the fuel tank to the car in the reverse order of removal--raise it back into position with the floor jack, connect the fuel lines and electrical connectors strap it in place with the straps.
  23. Lower the car and reconnect the battery cable. Connect the fuel pump inertia switch and press its reset button to energize the pump

Car will start and die within a few minutes. after a couple tries it will start again and stay running. If i dont let it warm up it will then sputter and eventually die again when I drive it.

hello, i'll try to assist you. it sounds to me like you have a bad idle control sensor. on the top of the motor, look for a round silver canister that has has an electrical plug in. the canister will be about 2inches round & will be on the top of motor. the cost of part should be close to $20.00 the unit will have 2 screws holding it to the motor. disconnect the positive cable to battery 1st then remove the plug in to unit, remove the module[idle control sensor] by turning the screws counter clockwise.taking care not to lose the screws. replace the unit & tighten the screws to snug position, plug unit back in, then reattach the positive cable back to the battery. this will let your cars computer adapt the new sensor to the cars computer. after you've inspected to make sure the units plugged correctly, start the car, your car should run smoothly with no stop & restart. good luck and thank you for selecting fixya.com for further assistance please fell free to consult an expert again.

How to change a battery for 2006 Hyundai Tiburon GT? Theres a nut with a washer that is screwed down on the battery terminal

Just remove the nut and washer on both post. If you have a rod that locks the battery down, loosen it up so you can remove the clamp that holds the battery down.
Remove negative battery cable first, then positive cable.
When putting the cables back on, positive gets put on first, then negative.

How to remove battery in 1992 Toyota Corona so it can be recharged

(1) Loosen screw on negative ( - ) terminal clamp, lift negative cable off terminal, and put cable end somewhere where it can't touch the battery. This stops the positive terminal from being "live" with respect to the rest of the car.

(2) Lift plastic cover from positive ( + ) terminal. Loosen screw on positive terminal clamp, while making sure your screwdriver is nowhere near the negative terminal at all times. Lift positive cable off terminal, and put cable end somewhere where it can't touch the battery.

(3) Loosen the butterfly nuts over the clamp that holds the battery to the tray. One butterfly nut will have to come off completely, the other can stay on so you don't lose the clamp down the middle of the engine. Swing the clamp off to one side.

(4) Lift the battery out of the tray, keeping it upright at all times.

To reinstall the battery, follow the above steps in reverse order.

How to change battery cable for Mazda 6 2005. Or some way to clean battery cable

I presume you mean the battery terminals. Remove negative terminal first by undoing the clamping nut then the positive and scrub the terminal and cable clamp with baking soda and water being careful not to get anything on your clothes or eyes. You could alternatively use a combination brush tool available from the auto parts store or a round file. Put the clamps back on and then coat them with vaseline or grease to slow down future corrosion. Be careful not to short the terminals with any tools while you are doing the work.
