Try having the ignition module checked. The ignition module is located underneath of the coil packs. Usually Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts can test them. Another possibility is low fuel pressure. There is a schrader valve on the fuel inlet line that you can hook up a fuel pressure tester to. The pressure should be around 38 PSI.

of so you have spark and fuel pressure, next check for a constant 12 volts to injectors, pulse is controlled by ground, if you have voltage check wiring to ecm

Flashers

Print The turn signal flasher is mounted in a clip on the right side of the steering column support bracket. The hazard flasher is located in the component center, under the instrument panel, on the right side. Replace the flasher by unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one.

Should be under the dash just to the left of the steering column, sometimes, if you have 2 flashers, you can turn on the emergency flashers and listen and feel for the click, your turn signal flasher is usually right next to the emergency flasher.

Mine was doing the same thing the injecters were bad internittently the car would accelerate to compensate for the dead fuel injector and flood the engine.Have your mechanic do a voltage check on your fuel injectors,my money is they gonna read low same exact symptoms i had.

have you checked to make sure the spark plugs were gapped properly for your car

Perhaps the brake switch up under the dash has come loose, the pedal returning to a non-brake position, it's default position when you enter the car, presses up upon a switch.When you depress the brake pedal and allow the plunger to fully extend this activates your brake lights, this also allows the shifter to be moved out of park, the reason you need to press brake pedal to shift car.So there is a chance someone kicked the switch loose or that is is defective and needs to be replaced, just follow the arm of the brake pedal upwards from where your foot presses and you will find it, you may have to remove a panel that is supposed to prevent any feet from touching the wiring while you drive...

I realise you mentioned that you have no vacuum leaks , but have you checked the intak manifold gaskets for vacuum leak?
if so check your distributor cap for any sign of cracks
also have you had or checked your timing?
check your fuel vapor canniste to ensure it is working properly
Are the spark plugs gapped properly?
also check to se if your rotor in the distributor is good or not

Hmm, that car is now 23 years old. My first run-in with a digital dash was on my son's '89 cutlass supreme, that about 15 years ago. It was doing the same as yours. I asked an Old's dealer, and was told if I took it off, they could ship it out somewhere to be fixed. I asked how much. He said, " well...not sure exactly, but ...it's pretty expensive." Chad, when the dealer admits to you that a repair is "pretty expensive", you tend to gulp, and look for the door! I did. We wound up with another dash from salvage, and it had only half the problems as his old one. But it worked for the most part, was ok. If you really want it fixed, I'm sure someone somewhere could fix it, and it's older technology now, might not cost so much, maybe a computer geek could even fix it. Just keep asking around, if you don't want to try a used one as I did. Problem is with finding a used one, a lot of salvagers send lots of low-demand cars older than 7 or10 years to the crushers.
