2004 colorado code p0172

Check engine light came on, computer read code PO172. I had 2 new oxygen sensors put on, within 50 miles check engine light is back on. Any suggestions?

  • laskagal Jul 25, 2009

I guess I should have mentioned: It is a new gas cap. I don't fuel with truck running. I have had the check engine light reset 3 times and continues to come on. 2 times before the new sensors and now 1 time since the new sensors. My concern is doing damage to any part of the truck that will shorten it's life or cost me more money later.

I will check oil level again and let you know, thanks.

Check your gas cap. If you fill your gas while the vehicle is running, it will also cause your light to come on. Go to OReilys or Autozone and they will shut it off for free and tell you the problem

Rich fuel mixture banks 1&2

Fuel sensors work in the hottest part of the exhaust and are difficult to remove after a period of time. Many mechanics apply a small amount of never seize to the threads to assist in replacement and future removal. However this affects the grounding of the sensor and can cause fault readings. Ask the mechanic if he did that and follow you idea that the sensors may aftermarket and not suitable for yoyr car

2002 MR2 fuel system too rich bank 1 and bank 2

Peter. The dealer did diagnose the problem. They said the car needed all 3 oxygen sensors replaced. They were replaced and the car is now returning codes p0172 and p0175 which are the only 2 codes coming up when the check engine light came on. My question is if the dealer sold me the incorrect oxygen sensors could this cause the computer to incorrectly set the p0172 and p0175 rich fuel mixture codes. There are no other codes coming up. My plan at this point is to check and clean the MAF, check my fuel pressure, and also the TPS but I did not want to waste my time if it could possibly be that the new oxygen sensors where the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

2002 bmw 325i engine light is on

All I know is that it is a 9 year old BMW. Probably has a little over 100k miles on it, right?
I would give better than 50/50 odds that a check engine light is telling you that your oxygen sensors are approaching the end of their service and are getting slow to respond. If you read the codes (which many auto parts stores will do for free) and the code says 'Catalyst efficiency low', the problem is old oxygen sensors.
You can replace oxygen sensors yourself if you have ramps to raise the car up.

P0172 and P0128 Error Code 2003 Trailblazer 4WD

PO172 means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a rich condition (too little oxygen in the exhaust). I would replace the thermostat first. The computer could be injecting too much fuel because it thinks it never gets to operating temperature. That may keep the light off.
