There are generally 2 electrical posts to a starter.
One post is the large one the positive battery terminal goes to, and that is used as a junction for the alternator, main fuse block input, etc. It usually has a .5" nut and washer.
The other wire to the starter is small and usually a push on jack terminal. You can tell this one because it will normally be cold to a test light until you try to crank the engine.
Color is not necessary and could differ due to repairs.

The wire color that actually sends the voltage from key to starter

Without more information regarding make model and year that's a tough one to answer. Most vehicles lately use a starter relay so there is no wire that goes directly from the ignition switch to the starter,it would go from ignition switch to a neutral safety switch then perhaps a anti theft device then to the starter relay, then the starting wire would travel from the starter relay to starter. In older gm products the common ignition to starter wire was purple for years.

2000 chev wont start at key

From the ignition switch there is a yellow wire that is for the starter. probe it when trying to start. If you have no voltage replace the switch. Also, I believe there is a fusible link in the wire by the starter. It will be a different color than purple. Probe on the back side of it to see if there is voltage at start up. If so, replace with the smae color link.

Colors of wires on the starter

They should be orange or black wires with a fusible link. They should be with or near the purple wire. They didn't get pinned between the block and the transmission?

What color is the wire leading out from the PCM to the starter?

There is no wire that comes out of the PCM to the starter. It's a completely different circuit that emulates from the Ignition Switch on the steering column...(which is still interchangeable with General Motors). However, the color of wire that attach's to your starter will either be a solid 14 ga.Brown wire or a 14 ga. Light Green with a Black tracer on it, dependent on which engine you have.

My starter is connected but theres a copper ring connecter loose where does it go?

There should be a large power wire connected to the starter. Then close to it there should be a small bolt extending out of the starter. If there is nothing connected to that bolt then that might be where the connector you speak of goes to. Also some starter connections require that both the large diameter and the small wire be connected to the same post.
