Take a thin blade screw driver and gently pry between the rubber seal and the metal and pop the light out, replaced the bulb and pop the light back in. works fine.

if you buy some of those "on tv only" lights that are bubble shaped and plastic, you can duct tape those onto your license plate area and click them on or off when needed.

Sounds like something is connecting to the car body, I would inspect the bulb you changed make sure the metal clips or wires are not touching anything.

2001 LeSabre - replace rear license light. The rear license plate lights do not light up the license at night. How do you get to them? What size bulb do you need?

kind of tricky, took me an hour to get it figured out, but you got to open the trunk and take out the 10 or so 10mm nuts sticking out of the backside of the lid, then the whole solid piece where the lights are on the back will slide off, then you can change the bulbs above the license plate and put it all back together, im cant remember off hand the bulb size, but your local auto parts store will have that info when you go to buy them

Rear license plate does not work

My park avenue has star bit screws on both sides of the plate lights right at the top of the license plate holder. I just chaged them last week. I do not know what size the bit was and I am not sure your car is the same. My car looks just like the car in the picture just longer and a little bigger.

How do I change the license plate lights on a 1997 Lexus ES 300?

Open the deck lid (trunk) to better access the lights. There will be 2 of them. Recommend replacing both at the same time even if only one has failed. Generally sold in pairs anyway.

Directly above the license plate will be mounted 2 clear light covers. On the right side of each light cover you can see a small plastic rivet. Push in the center 1/4 inch with a small screwdriver then you will be able to pry out and remove the rivet without damaging it. This will save you from buying replacement plastic rivets for re-installation. Remove the light cover with the bulb harness attached.

The bulb harness requires a short turn counter clockwise to remove it from the light cover and the new bulbs snap into the harness. No twisting or screwing. Replace the bulb harness the same way and fasten the light cover back into place using the plastic rivet.

Saves time because both bulbs and light covers are exactly the same style, there is no left or right. Cheers!

Replacing the license plate light

Hi,
Their is a plastic lens covering the licence plate bulb. I can be removed by using a flat-tipped screwdriver covered by a shop towel (or tape) on the right side of the lens. It should pop off where you can access the bulb.
Good Luck!

Changing license plate lamps on the tracker

There's no need to take the whole back panel off to do it, the light cover on the bulb twists out, and it might take some elbow grease to twist it, then the bulb is easy to change.

Good luck,
Eitan.
