Inside the vent where the bottom (foot area) vent connects to vent box behind console. There is a flap inside that is controlled by vacuum lines. Either a vacuum line came off, the vacuum actuator is faulty, or the flap is stuck.

I have a 2007 Expedition and front blows out out the defrost vent and you can change to floor but won't blow out the middle vents. Temp changes ok.

These vehicles have an electronic vent control that tends to malfunction like what you're describing. If you can locate it (Google vent door actuator location 2007 expedition), once you locate it start vehicle. Observe the white circle on actuator. With each vent selection it should turn. If it doesn't respond to each position this is your problem. They normally last about 5years

Flap that directs air to vent, floor defrost broken

I go to the dealer spares department when I have a problem like this and have them show me a picture of the vent system in the car and I point to the bit that I want. Saves a lot of time and energy when you can point to the bit As to how to replace it the break down will also show the area and you can see if there are clips or what to get the bit replaced.

Clicking noise when in the vent when I put the vent on the feet area and past that towards windshield vent. There is no noise when the vent is toward you and you/floor vent.

The Vent Mode Actuator and its gear that operates the directional door is making the noise. Either the gear is stripped or the door is stuck or the actuator is defective. These parts are hard to get to and will require a mechanic to diagnose.

Floor vents not working in my Avalon.

When you turn the dial to the floor vents, do you hear anything. You should hear a flap or something move after the dials been turned. There's a flap (direction control) just above the blower behind the passenger side dash. This directs the air to where it's supposed to go. It sounds like yours may have come loose

When air switches from vent to floor

Most likely cause is a vacuum leak under the hood. The blower door is vacuum driven and controls air flow inside the car. A vacuum leak will cause the door to malfunction and not direct the air where you want it. Check the vacuum lines under the hood, starting at the firewall and working backwards with the air on and look and listen for an air leak.

Air conditioning duct doors operating poorly

It could be a vacuum hose leak. With the car running listen for hissing sound either under the dash or under the hood. Or if the car has electric actuators on it one of them may have failed and stuck in place.
