Door latch won't hook onto the corresponding piece on the frame

Door will open just fine, but then it won't close. It's as if the latch on the door has flipped around and just bounces off of the connecting piece on the frame that it's supposed to attach to. I finally got it closed the other day, locked the doors, and was driving on the interstate when the door popped open. It didn't swing all the way open, so the door was hooked to something on the frame, but it opened enough that wind was coming in and the dash readout said "passenger door ajar."

SOURCE: when battery is connected fuel door and trunk open

well for starters there is many factors at play here. 1. battery chargers need to be on and battery disconnected. make sure if it has a timer it did not run out and (the charger may also have an internal fues/ relay ) if it gets too hot it shut off. Was the charger on a high enough setting to compenstate for the drain and is your battery good enough to be charged even. constantly drained batteries will actully not hold a charge after awhile. most parts or even walmart can check batteries free>
The trunk lights and fuel door on the same fuse? otherwise I would say the trunk has a bad switch that is not making contact or is making poor contact and acting as the trunk is open. it may just be pinched wires that rubbed together make contact with your cars steel body. They may be seen in the trunk follow the wires from the release switch and see if it connects anyplace near the fuel door. I am sure it will.

2001 gmc safari passenger door lock is stuck in lock keeping the door from closing

Did you look at door latch on door? In the old days sometimes, a piece for the door latch assembly would get turned down, when that happened, the door would bounce off the door stud on door frame. Sometimes you could take a screwdriver and flip that arm up, then the door will shut. The door stud on the door frame has to go into a slot on the door latch mechanism.
Granted, I can't see anything from here? I may be barking up the wrong tree? Just a thought.

06bmw pass.side door will not catch when push close how can get it to close

If what your telling me is that the door will go up to the latch and close no farther, then the latch is closed on the door. Hold the door handle open and stick a screwdriver in the hook that goes around the door post pin/ring and pop it open. It's just a hook that needs to be in an open and ready to hook position. The door will now close and latch.

I have a 2005 mazda mpv the pasanger side sliding door does not latch it mooves freely it is manual

You need to see if the latch bar ( curved metal piece that holds onto the strike bolt ) is in the closed position - if so, you'll need a helper to open it. You should also check to see if it is lubricated, which can keep it from latching.
When you look into the latch assembly, you should see a clear pathway for the striker bolt to enter the assembly. If there is a bar ( or hook ) blocking it, then you can use a flat blade screwdriver to move it to the open position. Insert the screwdriver into the latch assembly where you can pry on the inside of the hook, using the body of the door for leverage. position your screwdriver and then have your helper pull ( or push ) the outside door button / handle as you apply a small amount of pressure to the inside of the hook - the hook should easily slide out of the way. If it is hard to move, you'll need to spray some lubrication into the latch assembly. You can buy a can of white lithium grease in a spray can that will do the job.
There is a certain angle you'll need to pry in to get the latch to open - you may need to place the blade of the screwdriver through the hook and on the outside edge of the door or outside edge of the latch assembly, then gently push the screwdriver handle towards the outside of the van as the handle/ button is used.
Hope this helps!!

Door will not close - latch on door seems to be flipped around so that it bounces off the corresponding piece on the frame rather than catching it to keep the door closed.

Easy fix - while pulling out on the door handle (like you are trying to open it), take your finger and flip the door latch around so it opens. The latch has rotated to the closed position. This can happen in unusual situations, but is easy to correct.

Closet door latch (recently) doesn't extend fully with use of a strikeguard

It could be either the latch has jumped off the Cam inside the latch mechanism or the spring inside has jumped off back a bit onto the same Cam, I had the same problem with mine. If it's the simple ball bearing type it may just be dirt and so a wee squirt of WD40 may do the trick.

Rear passenger door won't stay closed

Door latch on door itself is in closed position if it will not close at all. In this case, open door and pull outside handle hard to pop open door latch. If you have door opening at random, door latch needs replacing or door catch on body is loose.

Rear door won't stay shut

Check the latch mechanism on the door. There is a piece of the latch that closes around the clasp on the door frame. sometimes this closes when the door is open and you can't shut the door. Take a screw driver and flip this latch piece open and close the door.
