My brake pedal goes to floor. I can still stop but no full pedal. Was working fine and next day not. Was a recall several years ago concerning brakes and shift into 4 wheel drive. Acts the same now. There are no leaks and have not added any fluid. the abs system does not work and hasn't for years (speed sensor i believe broke from me dropping right front off high curb). any help greatly appreciated. TIA
It does sound like your describing a faulty master cylinder but if your confident that its fine then I would look at the high pressure brake lines(there are 3). If you don't find any defects then pop the hood and just below you'll find the per portioning valve and the ABS module. If you unplug the single wire from the per portioning valve, turn the ignition key to the run position, the ABS light goes out, the valve has tripped or is defective. If the light stays on then get a test light, hook it to the pos. terminal of the batt. and touch the other end to the ele. terminal(recessed in the valve) if the light goes on then your valve has tripped. If it has tripped,if its not leaking or defective, you can try resetting it by pumping the the brake pedal till its hard and stand on it for a few seconds. The master cylinder must be in good condition and no air in the brake lines for this to work. If none of this helps then cosider replacing the master. Good luck.
First option is to check with your local dealer about the recall. They may tell you to bring it in for service under that tech bulletin.
Failing that, it sound like a master cylinder problem. Can you pump the brakes up at all? Does the pedal feel "spongy"? If you can pump them up, and the pedal is not spongy, then it is a high probability that you need to replace your master cylinder.
How long has it been since the front pads and rear shoes were replaced? If it has been awhile, you could be due a replacement. As the pads wear down, more of your brake fluid stays in the calipers, causing a low level condition in the master cylinder, allowing air into the system.
Try these options, and let me know what happens.

Hi charlie and thanks. The pedal will not pump up and it does feel somewhat spongy. I really don't have enough pedal to be sure of that. The master cylinder was replaced 75000 miles ago. I will check with a dealer about further recalls today. There must be a switch somewhere to tell the abs that i am in 4 wheel drive in order for the abs to compensate but i'm ignorant. I have a good parking brake but the rear shoes have never been replaced (odo + 155000) but have replaced front pads last 2 years. they look good. I appreciate your time and help and will post what the dealer says.
