Back windshield wiper stuck

The back windshield wiper is stuck upright. It acts like it's froze solid in that position. Very Annoying

  • mhathaway Apr 14, 2009

Checked the fuse, Is the motor right there where the wiper is? I'm not a car person (just a mom trying to make a living, so have to do what I can myself) But if it's the motor, can I order it on line and replace it myself? Not sure how to check the relay?

Did you check the relay?
The Fuse?
After that it could be the motor.

ok Look in all fuse panels for anything pertaining the back wiper. The relays are usaully a silver or black square.

you can fix this yourself. It is located in the rear panel right where the arm enters the vehicle.

  1. NOTE: During installation, it is necessary to pull the locking tab out to its full open (unlatched) position and hold while assembling the pivot arm onto the mounting arm and pivot shaft. Align the key on the pivot arm head with the keyway on the shafts. This will make sure the pivot arm is correctly aligned. If necessary, the key can be removed. To adjust wiper pivot arms, refer to Wiper Blade and Pivot Arm Adjustment in this section.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

the wirpers are connected to a shaft. the shaft is connected to a motor. The shaft must have turned and wipers were stuck and didn't move. So you will need to pull of each wiper arm and reposition with wipers turned off.

Windshield wipers stuck upright when off

This is a commoon problem with what is called the "Park pawl stop". The tab is most likely bent and needs to be re-aligned, then the wipers need to be re-timed. This re-timing can be a little difficult, although the re-aligning of the tab is failry simple.

Whindshield wipers stuck in a vertical position

This is an easy fix. Likely ice got on your windshield and froze your wipers to the glass then when turned on moved out of position. Take the cover off the base of the wipers and loosen the bolts. Put them down all the way and tighten. When wipers are turned on when frozen to glass the gears want to move but cant and loosens at the base. Please let me know if this does not help and will look into it further but this is probably it. Thanks
