Could be you have one of the C/V or "constant velocity" joints going bad. Would be easier on a car lift to check however look at the rubber boots, one on each end of both front drive shafts behind each front wheel, to see if damaged, torn etc. If a boot is torn and lost it's grease for sometime then the joint will give a knocking noise on turns and will need replaced.

Why does my car make a knocking noise when I turn left?

Are you SURE it's from the back end? This is the sort of thing you get with a worn CV joint. Make sure everything is secure in the boot.
Could also be a worn wheel bearing on the rear, probably nearside wheel. Check for play in the wheels.

Knocking when i turn right, was told it was cv joint, so changed right handside as thats the side all the noise comes from, but still not stopped knocking. have i changed the wrong side, or is it something...

yes you changed the wrong side if it knocks when you turn right its the left side because turning right shifts all the wait on the left side and puts a load on the joint causing it to knock

Knocking noise more on right side, but left side turns also

Check the boots at the ends of the front axles...If one is torn the joint has likely failed and needs to be replaced.
